The 17th annual PTV National Awards took place on 11 June 2012 and was aired on 30 June 2012. [1] [2] The awards were presented by the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) to honor the best drama programs on Pakistani television of the preceding 12 months. The ceremony was held at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and the hosts were Saba Qamar, Imran Abbas, Nadia Ali, and Mikaal Zulfiqar. [3] The event had the highest number of viewers for the awards show since the first PTV Awards in 1970.[ citation needed ] The aim of the awards ceremony is to encourage and foster television talent in Pakistan.
Dil Behkay Ga won the highest number of awards for a single nominee with four awards, including 'Best Drama Director' for Owais Khan. Aurat Ka Ghar Koun SA won three awards, including 'Best Playwright Series'. Juno and Tera Pyar Nahi Bhoole won two awards. Other winners were Jina Tu Hai, Payal (which got nine nominations), and Kachra Kundi, Virsa, Ramadan Transmission, Hama Tan Goosh and Raat Gaye with one award each. Saba Qamar won the 'Best Actress' award for her role in Tera Pyar Nahi Bhoole, and Noman Ejaz won the 'Best Actor' award, 24 years into his acting career, for his portrayal of a popular character in Dil Behkay Ga. PTV presents the Annual Awards to honor Pakistani public figures and promote emerging new talents in the Pakistani television drama scene, aiming to host the awards ceremony every year since its establishment in 1970. Each year, PTV chooses a tag line that best represents its prevalent theme. This year the PTV Awards tag line was "kasb-e-Kamal kun", which translates to "Tribute to Excellence".
The Guest of Honor was former Pakistani Prime Minister; Yousaf Raza Gilani, accompanied by Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Federal Minister Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Railway Minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Taimur Azmat Usman, PTV Managing Director Yousaf Baig Mirza, and Interior Minister of Pakistan Rehman Malik. In his address, Gilani stated that the country is surrounded by depression and hopelessness and the PTV awards played a key role in lifting up the morale and spirits of the nation. [2]
Pakistani government ministers Rehman Malik and Qamar Zaman Kaira gave away awards to the winning actors and actresses. [2]
The nominees for the 17th PTV Awards were announced on 12 May 2012. Viewer’s Choice Awards were also there and were officially open for polling by PTV for the categories of 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress'. The TV Drama category receiving the most nominations was Payal with nine, followed by Tera Pyar Nahi Bhoole and Aurat Ka Ghar Koun SA with seven nominations. [2]

The PTV Awards are the longest-running award ceremony in Pakistan which has honored the new talents in every field consistently for 43 years since the first award ceremony in 1970, and is the main television awards show for honoring the art and culture of Pakistani TV Dramas. PTV awards are often compared with the Indian Television Academy Awards and the American Emmy Awards. The 18th PTV Annual Awards are expected to be held on 4 July 2013 at Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Pakistan.
Savera Nadeem is a Pakistani actress, producer and director. Primarily known for her work in television, she also acted in theatre and films. Nadeem is the recipient of a Lux Style Award for Best Television Actress out of five nominations.
Atiqa Odho is a Pakistani television and film actress, television host, and the namesake of her own founded cosmetics brand Odho cosmetics. She debuted in Anwar Maqsood's TV series. The 2nd Hum Awards ceremony, presented by the Hum Television Network and Entertainment Channel (HTNEC), sponsored by Servis and Telenor Talkshawlk, honored the best in fashion, music and Hum Television Dramas of 2013. The ceremony took place on 29 March 2014 at Expo Center in Karachi, Sindh beginning at 7:30 PST. The ceremony was recorded and was broadcast on 25 May 2014. During the ceremony, Hum Television Network and Entertainment Channel presented awards in 29 regular categories along with 2 in honorary and 1 in special category. The ceremony was televised in Pakistan by Hum TV, while Servis returned as a main sponsor of the show.
Ullu Baraaye Farokht Nahi is a Pakistani drama television serial based on the afsana of the same name by Amna Mufti which was first published in 2009 in a monthly Urdu journal Shuaa. Directed by Kashif Nisar, the serial stars Noman Ijaz, Sohail Ahmed, Saba Qamar, Uzma Hassan, Irsa Ghazal, Yumna Zaidi and Noman Masood in prominent roles. Deals with the subject of feudalism and Watta satta, the series serves as a dark indictment on a society where men can abuse their power with impunity.
The Hum Award for Best Actress is an award presented annually by the Hum Television Network and Entertainment Channel (HTNEC). It is given in honor of an actress who has delivered an outstanding performance in a leading role while working within the Television industry. The 1st Hum Awards was held in 2013 with Mahira Khan winning the award, who was honored for her role in Shehr-e-Zaat. The award has commonly been referred to as the hum for Best Actress Jury or Best Drama Actress Jury. Currently, nominees are determined by single transferable vote, within the actors and jury branch of HTNEC; winners are selected by a plurality vote from the entire eligible voting members of the Hum. This awards is equivalent to the Hum Award for Best Actress Popular, which is given in the ceremony but winners are only selected by viewers voting's. Multiple nominations for an actress in same category but for different work is eligible.
Tera Pyar Nahi Bhoole was a 2011 television series that aired on PTV. The series was written by Jahanzeb Qamar, directed by Fauzia Siddique, and produced by Rafique Ahmad Warraich. It stars Ahsan Khan and Saba Qamar in their third on-screen appearance after Dastan in 2010 and Pani Jaisa Pyar in the same year. The serial was quite popular among viewers and also won the Lux Style Awards for Best Television Play. The serial received seven nominations at the annual PTV Awards.
Saife Hasan is a Pakistani TV director and actor. He is best known for the drama serial Dil ki Madham Boliyan (2005) and Ehd-e-Wafa (2019). He has directed the drama serial Bari Aapa for which he was nominated for the Hum Award for Best Director Drama Serial at 1st Hum Awards ceremony and Ru Baru.
Zahid Iftikhar Ahmed is a Pakistani television actor and former RJ. Ahmed worked as a creative manager for PTV World, and later became an RJ. Although successful, he left it to pursue a career in acting, and made his broadway debut with a leading role in the play It Runs in the Family (2006). He received widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Anwar Maqsood's, Sawa 14 August and its sequel Pawnay 14 August. That same year, he made his television debut with the Hum TV romantic series Mehram. His breakout role in the Hum TV series Alvida (2015), garnered him the Hum Award for Best Villain, and a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Subsequently, he received wide recognition for his portrayal of leading roles in several of the successful series, including Jugnoo (2015), Tum Mere Paas Raho (2015), Sangat (2015), Zara Yaad Kar (2016) and Besharam (2016).
