Gabriel Gregorio Fernando José María García Moreno y Morán de Butrón, was an Ecuadorian politician and aristocrat who twice served as President of Ecuador and was assassinated during his second term after being elected to a third. He is noted for his conservatism, Catholic Christian religious perspective and rivalry with liberal strongman Eloy Alfaro. García Moreno was noted for efforts to economically and agriculturally advance Ecuador and for his staunch opposition to corruption.

Francisco Javier León Franco was Vice President of Ecuador in the administration of Gabriel García Moreno from 1869 to 1875, and acting President of Ecuador 6 August 1875 to 6 October 1875. He was President of the Chamber of Deputies in 1865.

Rafael Pólit Cevallos studied at the Central University of Quito and joined the Conservative Party of Ecuador of Gabriel García Moreno. He was President of the Municipal Council of Guayaquil. He was President of the Senate when Congress resumed after the assassination of García Moreno on 6 August 1875. From 4 October 1875 - 9 December 1875 he held the combined office of Minister of the Interior and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was also Minister of Finance.

Manuel García Prieto, 1st Marquis of Alhucemas was a Spanish politician who served as prime minister several times in his life and as the 30th Solicitor General of Spain. He was a member of the Liberal Party. During his last term, he was deposed by Miguel Primo de Rivera.

Faustino Rayo was the assassin of President of Ecuador Gabriel García Moreno, who killed him by machete, with the revolver shots of his three conspirators, on August 6, 1875, in Quito, Ecuador. García Moreno twice served as President of his country and was assassinated just about to begin his third term. The president was noted for his conservative, Roman Catholic views.
