The 1946 South American Basketball Championship for Women was the first edition and first regional tournament for women in South America. It was held in Santiago, Chile and won by Chile. Four teams competed.
Each team played the other teams once, for a total of three games played by each team. The top three teams received medals.

The CONMEBOL Copa América, known until 1975 as the South American Football Championship, is the top men's football tournament contested among national teams from South America. It is the oldest still-running continental football competition, as well as the third most watched in the world. The competition determines the champions of South America. Since the 1990s, teams from North America and Asia have also been invited to compete.

Field hockey competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile is scheduled to be held from 25 October to 4 November 2023. It will be the fifteenth edition of the field hockey event at the Pan American Games. A total of eight men's and eight women's teams will compete in each tournament. The games will be played at the Field Hockey Training Center, located in the National Stadium Park cluster in Santiago.
