The Big 12 Conference is a college athletic conference headquartered in Irving, Texas. It consists of 14 full-member universities in the states of Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia.
The Oklahoma Sooners are the athletic teams that represent the University of Oklahoma, located in Norman. The Western Wrestling Conference (WWC) was an NCAA Division I wrestling-only conference that competed from 2006 through 2015. All of its past members became associate members of the Big 12 Conference, and all but one continue to compete in Big 12 wrestling. The exception is Fresno State, which was a charter WWC member but dropped the sport before conference competition started, revived the sport in 2017 as a Big 12 associate member, and dropped wrestling again after the 2020–21 season.

Wyoming has made a total of 16 appearances in the NCAA tournament. Since the Mountain West was formed in 1999, Wyoming has won two conference titles, including an outright championship in 2002. Wantland suggested it for the school's mascot. The official colors of the teams are bronze and blue, which the institution adopted in 1895. The Bronchos compete in the NCAA's Division II and in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association in all sports except women's rowing, which competes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Bronchos have won 22 national championships, with the most recent coming in 2024 as the wrestling program won the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. The university's current athletic director is Stan Wagnon, who has served in the position since 2020.
The Cornell Big Red wrestling team represents Cornell University of Ithaca, New York in collegiate wrestling. It is one of the most successful and storied collegiate wrestling programs in the nation with over 20 individual NCAA champions, 43 Ivy League championships, and 28 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association championships since the program's 1907 founding.
The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships have been held since 1928. In addition to determining the national champion in each weight class, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships also determine All-American wrestlers for each weight. The top eight finishers in each weight class earn All-American status. The top four teams earn podium and team trophy finishes.
The Penn State Nittany Lions wrestling program is an intercollegiate varsity sport at Pennsylvania State University. The wrestling team is a competing member of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The Nittany Lions compete at Rec Hall in State College, Pennsylvania, on the campus of Pennsylvania State University. The Nittany Lions have claimed 12 team National Championship titles and 55 individual NCAA National Championship titles.
Dean Heil is a former folkstyle wrestler from Brunswick, Ohio. Heil wrestled collegiately at Oklahoma State, where he was a three-time All-American and two-time NCAA champion.
The 1936 NCAA Wrestling Championships involved eleven teams to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college wrestling national champion, and each wrestler competed for individual championships. The 9th edition of the tournament began on March 20, 1936, and concluded on March 21. Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia hosted the tournament at Doremus Gymnasium.
The 1965 NCAA University Division Wrestling Championships were the 35th NCAA University Division Wrestling Championships to be held. The University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming hosted the tournament at War Memorial Fieldhouse.
The 1946 NCAA Wrestling Championships were the 16th NCAA Wrestling Championships to be held. Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Oklahoma hosted the tournament at Gallagher Hall, March 22–23, 1946.

Bryce Robert Meredith is an American professional mixed martial artist, former freestyle and graduated folkstyle wrestler who currently competes in the bantamweight division of Bellator MMA. In college, where he competed at 141 pounds, he was a three–time NCAA Division I All–American and the 2018 Big 12 Conference champion out of the University of Wyoming.
The 1989 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships were the 59th NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships to be held. Both University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma hosted the tournament. The tournament was held at the Myriad Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City.
