Group 2 of the 1968 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament took place from 19 to 27 March 1968. The group consisted of host nation Colombia, as well as Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay. The top two teams, Colombia and Uruguay, advanced to the final group. [1] [2]

The 2001 Copa América was held in Colombia, from 11 to 29 July. It was organised by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body. Colombia won the tournament for the 1st time without conceding a goal.

The 1979 edition of the Copa América association football tournament was played between 18 July and 12 December. It was not held in a particular country, all matches were played on a home and away basis. Defending champions Peru were given a bye into the semi-finals.
The 1975 edition of the Copa América football tournament was played between 17 July and 28 October. For the first time there was no fixed venue, and all matches were played throughout the year in each country. In addition, the tournament changed its name from South American Championship to Copa América. For the first time, all ten CONMEBOL countries participated, with defending champions Uruguay receiving a bye into the semi-finals and the rest starting in the group stage.

The Copa Merconorte 2001 was the fourth and final edition of association football tournament Copa Merconorte held in 2001. Millonarios of Colombia defeated Emelec of Ecuador in the final. It was the first edition to include teams invited from the United States, the Kansas City Wizards and NY/NJ MetroStars. Several fixtures for the MetroStars were cancelled following the September 11 attacks.
The 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup was the 18th FIFA U-20 World Cup. Colombia hosted the tournament between 29 July and 20 August 2011, with matches being played in eight cities. The tournament was won by Brazil who claimed their fifth title.
