King was a member of the victorious United States team in seven Federation Cups and nine Wightman Cups. For three years, she was the U.S. captain in the Federation Cup.

Widely referred to as one of the greatest professional tennis players of all time, she was ranked world No. 1 for a record 377 weeks and won 22 major singles titles, the second-most since the start of the Open Era in 1968 and third-most of all-time. Alongside Martina Navratilova, her greatest rival, Evert dominated women's tennis in the 1970s and 1980s.
