Chile is divided into 16 regions, which are the country's first-level administrative division. Each region is headed by an intendant (intendente), appointed by the President of Chile, and a directly elected regional board.
The Corsican Assembly is the unicameral legislative body of the territorial collectivity of Corsica. It has its seat at the Grand Hôtel d'Ajaccio et Continental, in the Corsican capital of Ajaccio. After the 2017 territorial elections, the assembly was expanded from 51 to 63 seats, with the executive council expanding from 9 to 11 members.

Denmark is divided into five regions, which contain 98 municipalities. The Capital Region has 29 municipalities, Southern Denmark 22, Central Denmark 19, Zealand 17 and North Denmark 11.
A regional election was held in Belgium on 18 June 1989 to elect representatives to the first Brussels Regional Council, which replaced the Brussels Agglomeration Council as a result of the creation of the Brussels-Capital Region. Elections to the European Parliament were held on the same day.

Local elections were held in Scotland on 7 May 1992, to elect members to all 53 district councils. It was the last local election held under the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, which had established the two-tier system of regions and districts. Regional and district councils were abolished in 1996, and replaced with 29 new mainland unitary authorities under the terms of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994.

The fourth election to Grampian Regional Council was held on 8 May 1986 as part of the wider 1986 Scottish regional elections. The election saw the Conservatives suffering heavy losses, which were in turn picked up by the various other parties. The Labour Party emerged as the single largest force on the 57 seat council, although all parties fell well short of the 29 seats needed for a majority. The election was particularly devastating for the Conservatives in the region given that they had controlled the council since its creation in 1974.
Elections to Strathclyde Regional Council were held on Tuesday 2 May 1978, on the same day as the eight other Scottish regional elections. This was the second election to the regional council following the local government reforms in 1974.
Regional elections were held in Denmark on 5 March 1974. 4735 municipal council members were elected to the 1974–1978 term of office in the 275 municipalities, as well as 370 members of the 14 counties of Denmark. The term of office was 1 April 1974 to 31 March 1978. This followed the financial year in the public sector. From 1 January 1979 the financial year in the public sector became the same as the calendar year, 1 January to 31 December.
Regional elections were held in Denmark on 3 March 1970. 4677 municipal council members were elected to the 1970 - 1974 term of office in the 277 municipalities, as well as 366 members of the 14 counties of Denmark. The term of office was 1 April 1970 - 31 March 1974. In Copenhagen County Sengeløse was created a municipality from 1 April 1970, but existed only until 31 March 1974. It was abolished 1 April 1974, becoming part of Høje-Taastrup Municipality. Store Magleby parish municipality merged with Dragør parish municipality to become Dragør Municipality from 1 April 1974. From 1 April 1974 there were 275 municipalities in Denmark.

The 1974 Orkney Islands Council election, the first election to Orkney Islands Council, was held on 7 May 1974 as part of the wider 1974 Scottish regional elections. Only independent candidates contested the election and eight seats were uncontested.
