The 1976 U.S. Clay Court Championships was a tennis tournament that was part of the men's Grand Prix and the women's Grand Prix. It was held in Indianapolis in the United States and played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 8th edition of the tournament in the Open Era and was held from August 9 through August 16, 1976. First-seeded Jimmy Connors won the singles title and the accompanying $25,000 first-prize money. Kathy May claimed the women's title and $6,000 in prize money.

The 1979 U.S. Clay Court Championships was a men's Grand Prix and women's Colgate Series tennis tournament. The event was held for the first time at the newly built Indianapolis Sports Center in Indianapolis in the United States and played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 11th edition of the tournament in the Open Era and was held in from August 6 through August 12, 1979. First-seeded Jimmy Connors won the men's singles title and the $25,000 first-prize money. First-seeded Chris Evert-Lloyd claimed the women's singles title and $20,000 first-prize money.

Manuel Orantes won the title for the third time, defeating Jimmy Connors in the final.

Fourth-seeded Andrea Temesvári was the defending champion but went out in the semifinals to Manuela Maleeva. Top-seed Maleeva won the final and $34,000 first prize money by defeating Lisa Bonder-Kreiss in the final.

Second-seeded pair Mark Edmondson and Sherwood Stewart won the title, sharing $18,000 prize money after beating Carlos Kirmayr and Cássio Motta in the final.

Top-seed Virginia Ruzici won the final and $24,000 first prize money by defeating seventh-seeded Helena Suková in the final.

Top-seed Chris Evert-Lloyd won the title beating third-seed Evonne Goolagong Cawley in the final for a first-prize of $20,000. It was Evert-Lloyd's fifth title at the U.S. Clay Courts and followed an absence of three years during which World Team Tennis commitments clashed with the event.

Third-seeded pair Kathy Jordan and Anne Smith won the title after defeating Penny Johnson and Paula Smith in the final.

Manuel Orantes was the defending champion but lost in the semifinals to Jimmy Connors. Top-seed Connors claimed the title and first prize money of $24,000 by defeating seventh-seeded José Higueras in the final.

Linky Boshoff and Ilana Kloss were the defending champions but did not participate due to Boshoff's retirement and Kloss' return to World TeamTennis. Helena Anliot and Helle Sparre-Viragh won the title after defeating Barbara Hallquist and Sheila McInerney in the final.

Kathy May was the defending champion but was upset in her first match against Mary Hamm. Third-seed Laura duPont won the title beating Nancy Richey in the final.

Manuel Orantes was the defending champion but lost in the quarterfinals. Jimmy Connors won the title for the second time and $25,000 prize money by defeating Wojciech Fibak in the final.

Juan Gisbert and Manuel Orantes were the defending champions, but they fell in the first round. Brian Gottfried and Raúl Ramírez claimed the title and $7,000 first-prize money following victory over Fred McNair and Sherwood Stewart in the final.

Third-seeded team Linky Boshoff and Ilana Kloss won the title after defeating Laura duPont and Wendy Turnbull in the final.

Jimmy Connors did not defend his title, he chose to play in North Conway instead. Third-seeded Manuel Orantes won the championship for the second time and $16,000 first-prize money by defeating Arthur Ashe in the final.

Top-seeds and defending champions Gail Chanfreau and Julie Heldman made the final but lost to Fiorella Bonicelli and Isabel Fernández, who won $3,500 for their efforts.

Manuel Orantes was the defending champion but lost in the semifinals to Jimmy Connors. Top-seeded Connors won the championship and $16,000 first-prize money by defeating Björn Borg in the final, in their first match on clay.

Chris Evert took her third US Clay Court title in succession and $6,000 first-prize money, defeating Gail Chanfreau in the final for the loss of only 15 points.
