The city of Ottawa, Canada held municipal elections on November 8, 1982.
Mayor Marion Dewar was re-elected, defeating conservative alderman Darrel Kent.

Dewar was re-elected, thanks to support from the city's urban wards, plus her home region in the suburban west and the Francophone east end of the city. She won 10 of the city's 15 wards, with her strongest support in the city's core, where she won over 60% of the vote in three wards: St. George's (63.7%), Wellington (63.2%) and Capital (61.6%). Kent was the strongest in the city's suburban south end, doing his best in his home ward of Canterbury, where he won 59% of the vote.

Ottawa South is a federal electoral district in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is represented in the House of Commons of Canada by David McGuinty, brother of former Premier of Ontario and Ottawa South MPP Dalton McGuinty. It has been held continuously by Liberal candidates since it was first contested in 1988, and is regarded as one of the strongest Liberal ridings in Canada. Ottawa South is a suburban, generally middle class riding, notable for having the highest Arab population in Ontario.
Richard "Rick" Chiarelli is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was an Ottawa City Councillor, and is the second cousin of former Ottawa mayor and 2022 mayoral candidate Bob Chiarelli. He represented the College Ward covering part of Nepean and Ottawa's west end. On council, Chiarelli was known for being an "independent voice, often voicing dissent on issues his fellow councillors support" and now for "offensive and disreputable behaviour" and "incomprehensible incidents of harassment" against staff. He was for a time the longest serving municipal politician on Ottawa's city council.
Diane Elizabeth Deans was a Canadian politician. A member of Ottawa City Council, she represented Gloucester-Southgate Ward, and its predecessor Southgate Ward in the city's southeast from 1994 to 2022. She was known for her demanding of public accountability and transparency on city-wide issues.
Jacquelin Holzman is a Canadian politician who served as the 55th mayor of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, from 1991 to 1997. Before that, she was an Ottawa city councillor from 1982 to 1991.

W. Greg MacDougall is a former Canadian politician who served on Ottawa City Council from 1980 to 1985. He served as the city's deputy mayor from 1981 to 1982 and was briefly acting mayor in 1985.
Brian V. Bourns is a former Canadian politician. He was an Ottawa City Councillor from 1975 to 1985, serving on the city's Board of Control from 1978 to 1980 before it was abolished.
Patricia Marilyn Nicol was a Canadian politician, developer, television commentator and newspaper columnist. She served as an alderman on Ottawa City Council from 1975 to 1976, and on the Ottawa Board of Control from 1977 to 1978. Considered to be on the "extreme right end" of the political spectrum at city hall, she was known for her "fiery speaking style" and her divisiveness led her to stand "alone... against the rest of city council on big issues". She was also known for her political rivalry with Ottawa's left leaning mayor, Marion Dewar, whom she ran against twice for Ottawa's top job.
