The women's doubles tournament at the 1980 French Open was held from 26 May to 8 June 1980 on the outdoor clay courts at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. Kathy Jordan and Anne Smith won the title, defeating Ivanna Madruga and Adriana Villagrán in the final.

Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver defeated Claudia Kohde-Kilsch and Hana Mandlíková in the final, 5–7, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's double tennis title at the 1984 French Open. It was the first step in an eventual Grand Slam for the pair.

The 1982 U.S. Clay Court Championships was a men's Grand Prix and women's Toyota Series tennis tournament held in Indianapolis in the United States and played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 14th edition of the tournament and was held from August 2 through August 8, 1982. Fifth-seeded José Higueras and top-seeded Virginia Ruzici won the singles titles.

Fourth-seeded Virginia Ruzici was the defending champion but went out in the semifinals to Andrea Temesvári. Top-seed Temesvári won the final and $34,000 first prize money by defeating Zina Garrison in the final.

Top-seeded pair Kathy Horvath and Virginia Ruzici claimed the title by defeating Gigi Fernández and Beth Herr in the final.

Top-seed Virginia Ruzici won the final and $24,000 first prize money by defeating seventh-seeded Helena Suková in the final.

Top-seed Andrea Jaeger won the final and $27,500 first prize money by defeating second-seeded Virginia Ruzici in the final.

Second-seeded JoAnne Russell and Virginia Ruzici won the title and $9,600 first-prize money after defeating Sue Barker and Paula Smith in the final.

Top-seed Chris Evert-Lloyd won the title for the sixth time, beating fourth-seed Andrea Jaeger in the final for a first-prize of $30,000.

Chris Evert Lloyd defeated the defending champion Martina Navratilova in the final, 6–0, 6–0 to win the singles tennis title at the 1981 Murjani WTA Championships. Evert lost no sets and just twelve games en route to the title.

There was no women's tournament held in the previous year. Sandra Cecchini and Raffaella Reggi were the champions in the 1985 edition. Both players competed this year with different partners. Cecchini teamed up with Sabrina Goleš and lost in the second round to tournament runners-up Claudia Kohde-Kilsch and Helena Suková, while Reggi teamed up with Anne White and lost in the first round to Virginia Ruzici and Catherine Tanvier.

Billie Jean King was the defending champion.
