The Eurovision Song Contest 1985 was the 30th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 4 May 1985 in the Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), and presented by Lill Lindfors, the contest was held in Sweden following the country's victory at the 1984 contest with the song "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley" by Herreys.
The United Kingdom was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 with the song "Love Is...", written by Jimmy Kaleth and Vikki Watson, and performed by Vikki herself. The British participating broadcaster, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), selected its entry through a national final.
Bobbysocks is a Norwegian pop duo consisting of Norwegian Hanne Krogh and Swedish-Norwegian Elisabeth Andreassen. They won the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 with the song "La det swinge". Elisabeth went by the surname Andreasson until 1994.
Elisabeth Gunilla Andreassen, also known simply as Bettan, is a Norwegian-Swedish singer who has finished both first and second in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The German participating broadcaster on behalf of ARD, Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), selected their entry through a national final. This was the first of three appearances by Wind at Eurovision; they would also represent Germany in 1987 and 1992.
Denmark was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 with the song "Sku' du spørg' fra no'en?", composed by Søren Bundgaard, with lyrics by Keld Heick, and performed by Hot Eyes. The Danish participating broadcaster, Danmarks Radio (DR), organised the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 1985 in order to select its entry for the contest. This was the second consecutive Eurovision appearance for the duo.

Switzerland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 with the song "Piano, piano", composed by Anita Kerr, with lyrics by Trudi Müller-Bosshard, and performed by Mariella Farré and Pino Gasparini. The Swiss participating broadcaster, the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, selected its entry for the contest through a national final.
Turkey was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 with the song "Didai didai dai", written by Mazhar Alanson, Fuat Güner, and Özkan Uğur, and performed by themselves under their stage name MFÖ. The Turkish participating broadcaster, Türkiye Radyo ve Televizyon Kurumu (TRT), selected its entry through a national final.

The Israeli participating broadcaster, the Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA), selected its entry for the contest through Kdam Eurovision 1985. Cohen had previously represented Israel in 1978, winning the contest with the song "A-Ba-Ni-Bi" along Alphabeta.
