The 1987 VAFA season was the 87th season of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). The season began on 4 April and ended on 27 September, with a total of 86 teams participating across eight divisions under a promotion and relegation system. [1] [2]
Four new − Aquinas, Bloods, Port Colts and Richmond Central − joined the VAFA prior to the start of the season. [3] This resulted in the VAFA being expanded to eight divisions, with H Section created. [4]

Ormond won their sixth A Section premiership, defeating Old Xaverians by 17 points. [6] Ormond's premiership came exactly 50 years after their first A Section season. [7]
Until 2021, this was the last time Caulfield Grammarians had won a senior game in A Section/Premier Division. [8]

St Bernard's won their second B Second premiership, defeating Marcellin by 32 points. [12] The finals series was extended by a week after St Bernard's drew with Therry in the second semi-final on 5 September, which led to a replay being held on 13 September. [1]

The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is the largest senior community Australian rules football competition in Victoria. Founded in 1892, it consists of six senior men's and women's divisions ranging from Premier to Division 3.
The Albert Park Football Club, nicknamed the Falcons, is an Australian rules football club based in the Melbourne suburb of Albert Park. The club currently holds the record for longest senior premiership drought in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), winning just three reserves grand finals since it was founded in 1954.
The AJAX Football Club, nicknamed the Jackas, is an Australian rules football club based in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda.
The Camberwell Football Club, nicknamed the Cobras, was an Australian rules football club based in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell. The club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1926 until 1990, which was followed by three seasons in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) before going into recess in 1995.
