They became the third team in U.S. Open Cup history to win three straight U.S. Open Cups. As winner of the Open Cup, the Sounders earned a place in the 2012–13 CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage. The farthest advancing USL Pro team was the Richmond Kickers.

1983 National Challenge Cup Football tournament season

The 1983 National Challenge Cup was the 70th edition of the USSF's annual open soccer championship. Teams from the North American Soccer League declined to participate. New York Pancyprian-Freedoms defeated St. Louis Kutis SC in the final game. The score was 4–3.

The 2012 USASA Region I National Cup will be a qualifying tournament to determine which clubs from the first region of the United States Adult Soccer Association will qualify for the first round proper of the 2012 U.S. Open Cup. The defending co-champions, New York Pancyprian-Freedoms and Phoenix SC both failed to qualify for the tournament, losing in their respective state/subregional tournaments.

The 2011 USASA National Women's Cup was the 16th edition of the annual national soccer championship, won by the St. Louis powerhouse J.B. Marine S.C. in an overtime 2-1 victory over Sparta United WSC of Salt Lake City. This was J.B. Marine's sixth title over all competitions.

The 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament proper will feature teams from all five tiers of men's soccer of the American Soccer Pyramid. A record 64 amateur teams have entered qualifying this year.

Lansdowne Yonkers FC is an American soccer club based in Yonkers, New York. Founded in 1997, the team plays in Region I of the United States Adult Soccer Association. The club, also known as the ‘Bhoys’, was formed by Irish American immigrants in 1997 and wears the same colours as Celtic FC. While including Irish players on its teams, there is a distinct multinational feel to the club as they have featured players from the USA, New Zealand, Ivory Coast, Germany, Jamaica, and Gambia.
