Martina Navratilova defeated Zina Garrison in the final, 6–4, 6–1 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1990 Wimbledon Championships. It was her ninth Wimbledon singles title and 18th and final major singles title overall, tying Chris Evert's Open Era record. It was also her ninth consecutive Wimbledon final.
Gabriela Sabatini defeated the two-time defending champion Steffi Graf in the final, 6–2, 7–6(7–4) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1990 US Open. It was her first and only major singles title, despite reaching eighteen semifinals and three finals during her career. The final was a rematch of the 1988 final and the 1989 semifinals. Sabatini became the first Argentine to win the title.
Jana Novotná and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario were the defending champions but they competed with different partners that year, Novotná with Lindsay Davenport and Sánchez Vicario with Natasha Zvereva.
Steffi Graf defeated Karina Habšudová in the final, 4–6, 6–2, 7–5 to win the singles tennis title at the 1996 WTA German Open.
Venus Williams defeated Anna Kournikova in the final, 2–6, 6–4, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1998 Miami Open.
Pam Shriver and Natasha Zvereva were the defending champions for the women's doubles. In 1992, they competed with different partners, Shriver with Martina Navratilova and Zvereva with Gigi Fernández.
Serena and Venus Williams defeated Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova in the final, 6–3, 6–7(2–7), 8–6 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 1999 French Open. It was the first major title for the Williams sisters, and would be their first step towards completing the career Golden Slam in doubles.

Defending champion Jana Novotná and her partner Martina Hingis defeated the other defending champion Lindsay Davenport and her partner Natasha Zvereva in the final, 6–3, 6–3 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 1998 US Open. They did not drop a single set en route to the title. With the win, Hingis became the third woman in the Open Era to complete a Grand Slam in doubles, after Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver. Additionally, Hingis and her partners defeated Davenport/Zvereva in all four major finals in 1998.
