Its first test match as Russia was against the Barbarians in Moscow in June 1992 and the country's first test against an official Test nation was against Belgium later that same year.

The Russia national football team represents Russia in men's international football and it's controlled by the Russian Football Union, the governing body for football in Russia. Russia's home ground is the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow and their current head coach is Stanislav Cherchesov.

The 2005 Russian football season, saw CSKA Moscow competed in the Russian Premier League, Russian Cup, two editions of the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. CSKA won the Russian Premier League, Russian Cup and the 2004-05 UEFA Cup, earn them a historic treble. As a result of winning the UEFA Cup they faced Liverpool in the 2005 UEFA Super Cup, which they lost 3–1.

The 2008 Russian football season, saw CSKA Moscow competed in the Russian Premier League, finishing 2nd behind Rubin Kazan, and in Russian Cup. CSKA won the 2007/08 Russian Cup and progressed to the Quarter-finals of the 2008-09 Cup by the end of the 2007 season.

The 2004 Russian football season, saw CSKA Moscow competed in the Russian Premier League, Russian Cup and the UEFA Champions League.

The 2015–16 season was the 106th season of competitive football in Germany.

The 2016–17 season was the 107th season of competitive football in Germany.

The 2017 season was the 120th season of competitive football in Sweden. Sweden will participate in qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The 2018 season is the 121st season of competitive football in Sweden. Sweden participated in the 2018 FIFA World Cup after finishing 2nd in qualifying, and beating Italy in the play-offs. The team reached the quarter-finals, where they were knocked-out by England by the score of 0–2.

The 1992 season was the first season in the top Ukrainian football league for Dynamo Kyiv. Dynamo competed in Vyshcha Liha, and Ukrainian Cup.

The 2002 FC Spartak Moscow season was the clubs 11th season in the Russian Premier League season. Spartak were defending Premier League Champions, having won the previous six titles, but finished the season in third place. In the Russian Cup, Spartak progressed the Quarterfinals of the 2002–03 cup, which will take place in the 2003 season. In Europe, Spartak finished bottom of their UEFA Champions League group where they played Valencia, Basel and Liverpool.
