The 1996 South American Badminton Championships (Spanish : Campeonato Sudamericano Adulto de Badminton 1996) was a badminton tournament sanctioned by the South American Badminton Confederation and Badminton Pan America. The individual and mixed team events were held from 14 to 17 November 1996. [1] [2] [3]
The tournament was held at CENARD located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. [4] [5] Peru finished top on the medal table, winning gold in every event. [6]
In the mixed team event, Peru achieved first place after winning against their opponents 5–0. [7]

The Brazil national badminton team represents Brazil in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Brazil Badminton Confederation, the governing body for badminton in Brazil. Brazil is one of South America's most active badminton nations. The team is a member of Badminton Pan America and the South American Badminton Confederation.
Martín Trejo is an Argentine badminton player, and now works as national coach. Trejo won a bronze medal in men's doubles at the 2013 South American Badminton Championships.

Ximena Aída Marío Bellido Ugarte is a retired Peruvian badminton player. Ximena Bellido was one of the dominant players in her home country and on the South American continent in the 1980s and 1990s. Bellido is the 15-time former National champion, 4-time South American champion and winner of several international titles in Brazil, Argentina and United States. She also represented her country in 1999 Pan American games in Winnipeg, Canada and many editions of World championships across three disciplines. Bellido was conferred with Sports Laurel award in 1988 after winning South American championships.
