The Toppserien is the top level of women's association football in Norway. It was founded in 1984.

Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic country in Northwestern Europe whose territory comprises of the western and northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula; the remote island of Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard are also part of the Kingdom of Norway. Ragnhild Øren Gulbrandsen is a Norwegian journalist and former football striker from the city of Trondheim who retired from football at the end of 2007. Most of her playing career was spent with Trondheims-Ørn women's football club, with whom she won the Norwegian elite league, the Toppserien, three times and the Cup four times, and was the club's top scorer in 1997, 2000 and 2001. As of April 2012, Gulbrandsen's 141 Toppserien goals made her third in the all-time goalscorer statistics.

Ann Kristin "Anka" Aarønes is a Norwegian former footballer. She first played for Spjelkavik IL, then for Trondheims-Ørn and the Norwegian national team. Later she played for the WUSA's New York Power, during the club's first season of play in 2001.

Marianne Iren Pettersen is a Norwegian footballer. She was a forward for the club Asker, whom she joined from Gjelleråsen after the 1996 season, and became the top scorer with 36 goals in the 1998 season of 18 matches. For the Norwegian national team, she debuted in 1994, scoring against Italy. Overall, she scored 66 goals in 98 international matches. She retired in 2003, after competing in the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics.

Promotion and relegation

Bøler and Verdal were relegated to the First Division.

Bøler Idrettsforening is a Norwegian sports club from Bøler, Østensjø, Oslo. It has sections for association football, team handball, track and field and tennis. It formerly had a section for Nordic skiing.

Verdal Idrettslag is a Norwegian sports club from Verdalsøra, Nord-Trøndelag. It has sections for association football, team handball, weightlifting and speed skating.

IF Fløya is a Norwegian football club from the city of Tromsø. The club was founded on 24 June 1922 and named for the Fløya mountain which overlooks Tromsø centre.
