Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar, commonly referred to as FH, is a professional Icelandic sports club based in Hafnarfjörður. The club competes in football, handball, athletics, and fencing. Its men's football team has been a dominant power since the early 2000s.

The Úrvalsdeild karla is the paramount men's football league in Iceland. It has been played since 1912. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer. It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSI) and has 12 teams. By end of season 2015–2016, UEFA ranked the league No. 35 in Europe. From 27 April 2009, the league has had an active agreement on the league's name rights with Ölgerðin, the Icelandic franchisee for Pepsi. From the 2019 season onwards, the league is popularly referred to as Pepsi Max deildin.

Brynjar had previously played for Nottingham Forest, Stoke City, Watford and Reading in England as well as Vålerenga and Moss in Norway and Örgryte IS in Sweden. Gunnarsson is the current manager of HK in the 1.Division of Icelandic football.
1. deild karla, known as Inkasso-deild karla for sponsorship reasons, is a football league in Iceland. It is the second highest professional level in the Icelandic football league system. The league was founded in 1955 and current champions are ÍA. The league was expanded to 12 teams for the 2007 season, after having only 10 teams for many years. Since 2008 the top three divisions have all had 12 teams.

Atli Eðvaldsson was an Icelandic footballer who played as a midfielder, widely regarded as one of the most influential players to come from Iceland. During his career, he won the Icelandic championship three times and the Icelandic Cup four times. After retiring from playing, he became a well-known manager. In 1999, he guided Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur to its first championship in 31 years. Atli played 70 games for the Icelandic national team from 1976 to 1991. He later coached the national team from 1999 to 2003.

Its main rivals is another sport club from Akureyri named KA. Þór and KA merged their handball clubs to form Akureyri Handboltafélag before the 2006–07 handball season in Iceland, resulting in some fans to disowning the merged team.
The KR men's basketball team, commonly known as KR or KR Basket, is a professional basketball club based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is the men's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur multi-sport club. It is the reigning champion of the Úrvalsdeild karla. It has won the Icelandic championship eighteen times, the most national championships in the men's top-tier league history. In 2017 the club played in FIBA Europe Cup for the first time since 2008.
The Icelandic Men's Super Cup is an annual football game between the reigning champions of the Úrvalsdeild karla and the Icelandic Cup holders. It generally takes place at the start of the Iceland domestic season, in May and has been running uninterrupted since 2003. Before that the competition was uninterrupted between 1969 and 1999. Title-holders from 1999, 2000 and 2001 did not play for this title.

It is based in Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland, and currently plays in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top-tier women's football league in Iceland. The team plays it home games at the Hásteinsvöllur. ÍBV has won the Icelandic Cup twice, in 2004 and 2017.
