Jelena Dokic is an Australian tennis coach, commentator, writer, and former professional tennis player. Her highest ranking as a tennis player was world No. 4, in August 2002. She won WTA Tour events on all surfaces during her career.
Lindsay Davenport defeated Steffi Graf in the final, 6–4, 7–5 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships. This was the final Grand Slam tournament in which Graf appeared. Davenport did not drop a set throughout the entire tournament. Jana Novotná was the defending champion but lost in the quarterfinals to Davenport.
Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus Williams in the final, 7–6(7–4), 3–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2003 Australian Open. It was her fourth consecutive major singles triumph, completing the "Serena Slam", both a non-calendar year Grand Slam and the career Grand Slam. It was also Venus' record fourth consecutive runner-up finish at a major, losing every final to Serena. Serena saved two match points and was 1–5 down in the third set against Kim Clijsters in the semifinals. This was the first Australian Open final without Martina Hingis since 1996.
Justine Henin-Hardenne defeated her rival Kim Clijsters in the final, 7–5, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2003 US Open. She lost only one set during the tournament. Clijsters' loss in the final was her last defeat at the US Open until 2012, as she would go on to win her next 22 US Open matches, including three titles in 2005, 2009 and 2010.
Serena Williams defeated the two-time defending champion, her sister Venus Williams, in the final, 7–6(7–4), 6–3 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2002 Wimbledon Championships. It was her first Wimbledon singles title, and the second step in completing her first "Serena Slam," a non-calendar year Grand Slam and career Grand Slam. She also claimed the world No. 1 singles ranking for the first time after winning the tournament. She achieved the 'Channel Slam', a feat which she accomplished again in 2015. Serena did not lose a set during the tournament.
Defending champion Serena Williams successfully defended her title, defeating her sister Venus Williams in a rematch of the previous year's final, 4–6, 6–4, 6–2 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2003 Wimbledon Championships. It was her second Wimbledon singles title and her sixth major singles title overall.
Maria Sharapova defeated the two-time defending champion Serena Williams in the final, 6–1, 6–4 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2004 Wimbledon Championships. It was her first major title. The 17-year-old's victory over the six-time major champion was described by commentators as "the most stunning upset in memory". With the win, Sharapova entered the top 10 in rankings for the first time in her career. She also became the third-youngest woman to win Wimbledon and the second Russian woman to win a major title.
Justine Henin-Hardenne defeated her compatriot Kim Clijsters in the final, 6–0, 6–4, to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2003 French Open. This was Henin-Hardenne's first Grand Slam singles title, making her the first Belgian tennis player, male or female, to win a major tournament. Serena Williams was the defending champion, but she was defeated by Henin-Hardenne in the semifinals, ending her winning streak of thirty-three major matches.
Anastasia Myskina won her only Grand Slam title and defeated Elena Dementieva in the final 6–1, 6–2, to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2004 French Open. Myskina had previously never passed the second round. She became the first Russian woman to win a Major. Myskina became the first woman in the Open Era to win the French Open after saving a match point in the fourth round against Svetlana Kuznetsova. This was the first time two new Grand Slam finalists competed each other in the final since the 1979 Australian Open.
Serena and Venus Williams were the defending champions, but lost in the third round to Elena Dementieva and Lina Krasnoroutskaya.
