The Democratic Party gained one new seat with Wong Sing-chi, as Cyd Ho of The Frontier ran in Hong Kong Island.

The Democratic Party (DP) is a liberal political party in Hong Kong. The party generally sits at the centre to centre-left of the Hong Kong political spectrum. Chaired by Lo Kin-hei, it is the flagship party in the pro-democracy camp and currently has no elected representatives in the District Councils.
Civil Force is a district-based pro-Beijing political party in Hong Kong. Since 2014, the Civil Force has entered an alliance with the New People's Party of Regina Ip. Headed by chairman Pun Kwok-shan, it had its stronghold in the Sha Tin and Sai Kung Districts and had once the majority of seats in the Sha Tin District Council until its total defeat in 2019.
Frederick Fung Kin-kee, SBS, JP is a former member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong from 1991 to 1997 and from 2000 to 2016 and the former chairman of the pro-democracy Hong Kong Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood (ADPL) from 1989 to 2007.
The New Territories East geographical constituency was one of the five geographical constituencies in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. It was established in 1998 for the first SAR Legislative Council election and was abolished under the 2021 overhaul of the Hong Kong electoral system. It encompassed Sha Tin District, Tai Po District, North District and Sai Kung District. In the 2016 Legislative Council election, nine members of the Legislative Council using the Hare quota of party-list proportional representation with 1,139,616 electorates in 2020.
Andrew Cheng Kar-foo was a Hong Kong politician and solicitor. He is a former Democratic Party member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong representing the New Territories East geographical constituency.

The Neo Democrats was a pro-democracy, localist political group in Hong Kong composed mainly of former and disenchanted members of the Democratic Party New Territories East branch after the 2012 constitutional reform proposals. It had held one seat in the Legislative Council until Gary Fan lost his re-election in the 2016 Legislative Council election. Fan won the seat back in the 2018 by-election, but lost his seat after a court declared that he was not duly elected. It held 8 seats in the District Councils before its dissolution on 26 June 2021.

The election was held on 9 September 2012 and all 9 seats in New Territories East where consisted of North District, Tai Po District, Sai Kung District and Sha Tin District were contested. The pro-democracy camp strategically succeeded in holding six seats with only 56.9% of the votes. Raymond Chan Chi-chuen of the People Power and Gary Fan of Neo Democrats were elected for the first time. Former Civic Party legislator Fernando Cheung also returned to the LegCo representing the newly formed Labour Party.

A total of 70 members, 35 from geographical constituencies (GCs) and 35 from functional constituencies (FCs), were returned. The election came after the rejection of the 2016/2017 constitutional reform proposals which suggested the electoral method for the 2016 Legislative Council remains unchanged.
Nelson Wong Sing-chi is a Hong Kong politician and social worker. He had been member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong between 2000–04 and 2008–12. He was the founding member of the Democratic Party before he was expelled in 2015 for his support in the government's constitutional reform proposals. He was also briefly a founding member of the Third Side, a centrist political party.
Christine Fong Kwok-shan is an engineer and politician in Hong Kong, as well as a former child actress. She is a current member of the Sai Kung District Council.

The election was held on 7 September 2008 and all 7 seats in New Territories East where consisted of North District, Tai Po District, Sai Kung District and Sha Tin District were contested. The pro-democracy camp succeeded in holding five seats out of seven seats, with James Tien lost his seat to Wong Sing-chi of the Democratic Party.
These are the New Territories East results of the 2004 Hong Kong legislative election. The election was held on 12 September 2004 and all 7 seats in New Territories East where consisted of North District, Tai Po District, Sai Kung District and Sha Tin District were contested. The pro-democracy camp formed a electoral coalition "7.1 United Front" aimed at four seats, however due to the largest remainder method the wasted votes contributed to Li Kwok-ying who placed second on the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong ticket. Radical democrat Leung Kwok-hung of April Fifth Action also won a seat for the first time.
These are the New Territories West results of the 2000 Hong Kong legislative election. The election was held on 10 September 2000 and all 6 seats in New Territories West, which consists of Tsuen Wan District, Tuen Mun District, Yuen Long District, Kwai Tsing District and Islands District, were contested. The Democratic Party first applied electoral strategy of dividing three candidate lists in order to avoid wasted votes, as largest remainder method encouraged. Lee Wing-tat failed to be re-elected, losing votes to another Democratic ticket of Albert Chan, while the last seat was won by Tang Siu-tong of the Hong Kong Progressive Alliance who stood with the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong ticket.
The 2018 Hong Kong Legislative Council by-election was held on 11 March 2018 for four of the six vacancies in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo) - the Hong Kong Island, Kowloon West and New Territories East geographical constituencies and the Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape functional constituency - resulting from the disqualification of six pro-democrat and localist camp Legislative Council members over the 2016 oath-taking controversy. The by-election for the two other seats was not held due to pending legal appeals by the two disqualified legislators.
