2000 St. James Place is a 12-story, [1] 335,000 square foot (31,100 m2) office building in Houston, Texas. It formerly housed the headquarters of Minute Maid. [2] The building is located on a 6 acres (2.4 ha) site, [1] and is in proximity to The Galleria. [3]

Houston is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Texas and the fourth most populous city in the United States, with a census-estimated population of 2.312 million in 2017. It is the most populous city in the Southern United States and on the Gulf Coast of the United States. Located in Southeast Texas near Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, it is the seat of Harris County and the principal city of the Greater Houston metropolitan area, which is the fifth most populous metropolitan statistical area (MSA) in the United States and the second most populous in Texas after the Dallas-Fort Worth MSA. With a total area of 627 square miles (1,620 km2), Houston is the eighth most expansive city in the United States ; it is the largest city in the United States by total area, whose government is similarly not consolidated with that of a county or borough. Though primarily in Harris County, small portions of the city extend into Fort Bend and Montgomery counties.

Minute Maid American beverage company

Minute Maid is a product line of beverages, usually associated with lemonade or orange juice, but which now extends to soft drinks of many kinds, including Hi-C. Minute Maid is sold under the Cappy brand in Central Europe and under the brand "Моя Семья" in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Minute Maid was the first company to market orange juice concentrate, allowing it to be distributed throughout the United States and served year-round. The Minute Maid Company is owned by The Coca-Cola Company, the world's largest marketer of fruit juices and drinks. The firm opened its headquarters in Sugar Land Town Square in Sugar Land, Texas, United States, on February 16, 2009; previously it was headquartered in the 2000 St. James Place building in Houston.

History

2000 St. James Place was built in 1978. [1] In 1985, The Coca-Cola Company purchased the property from Bechtel Corporation, to be used as the headquarters of Minute Maid, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola. Minute Maid moved into 2000 St. James Place in 1986. [4] In 2006, the building underwent an $11.8 million renovation. In 2007, Coca-Cola sold the building to Cameron Management, Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo), and a group of local investors for an undisclosed amount. Coca-Cola then leased 150,000 square feet (14,000 m2) of space in the building to continue housing the Minute Maid headquarters until the headquarters were moved to Sugar Land Town Square in Sugar Land, Texas. [5] Anticipating the departure of Minute Maid, Cameron Management planned to market the building as having the largest block of contiguous office space in the Uptown area. [3]

The Coca-Cola Company American multinational beverage corporation

The Coca-Cola Company is an American corporation, and manufacturer, retailer, and marketer of nonalcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups. The company is best known for its flagship product Coca-Cola, invented in 1886 by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. The Coca-Cola formula and brand were fully bought with US$2,300 in 1889 by Asa Griggs Candler, who incorporated The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta in 1892.

Coca-Cola Carbonated soft drink

Coca-Cola, or Coke, is a carbonated soft drink manufactured by The Coca-Cola Company. Originally intended as a patent medicine, it was invented in the late 19th century by John Stith Pemberton and was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coca-Cola to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century. The drink's name refers to two of its original ingredients: coca leaves, and kola nuts. The current formula of Coca-Cola remains a trade secret, although a variety of reported recipes and experimental recreations have been published.

Wells Fargo American multinational banking and financial services company

Wells Fargo & Company is an American multinational financial services company headquartered in San Francisco, California, with central offices throughout the United States. It is the world's fourth-largest bank by market capitalization and the third largest bank in the US by total assets. Wells Fargo is ranked #26 on the 2018 Fortune 500 rankings of the largest US corporations by total revenue. In July 2015, Wells Fargo became the world's largest bank by market capitalization, edging past ICBC, before slipping behind JPMorgan Chase in September 2016, in the wake of a scandal involving the creation of over 2 million fake bank accounts by Wells Fargo employees. Wells Fargo fell behind Bank of America to third by bank deposits in 2017 and behind Citigroup to fourth by total assets in 2018.

Post Minute Maid

On February 16, 2009, Minute Maid moved its headquarters from 2000 St. James Place to Sugar Land Town Square. [6] In 2009, 2000 St. James Place became the only office building in Texas—and one of only 49 buildings in the United States—to receive the LEED-EB v2.0 Gold certification. [1] In 2010, Wachovia Bank foreclosed the vacant building, taking it from owner Cameron Management Inc. The building was offered for sale on May 4, 2010 at the Harris County courthouse, but there were no buyers. [2]

Weatherford

In late 2010, Weatherford International signed a lease agreement on the entire property. [7] With the relocation of Weatherford to this building, Luby's Inc., particularly their Culinary Services Division, now serves as their cafeteria provider. A Salad Bar, Deli, Main Line, Global Bar, Juice Bar, and Grill is open every weekday from 7:00am–10:00am for breakfast and 11:00am–2:00pm for lunch.

Weatherford International company

Weatherford International plc, an Irish-domiciled company, is one of the largest multinational oil and natural gas service companies. The company provides products and services for drilling, evaluation, completion, production and intervention of oil and natural gas wells, along with pipeline construction and commissioning. Headquartered in Baar, Switzerland, Weatherford operates in more than 100 countries across the globe and employs more than 35,000 people (2016).

Luby's, Inc. operates restaurants under the brands Luby's, Fuddruckers, Koo Koo Roo, and Cheeseburger in Paradise. It was founded in 1947 in San Antonio, Texas, United States by Robert Luby (1910-1998).

Design

Nearly one third of the building's site is landscaped to reduce heat island effects and storm water drainage. The property has high efficiency chillers installed, an automation control system managed through a Web-based user interface, and to save energy, designers coated the roof with special material. [1] The building has a cafeteria, a fitness center, and 1,230 parking spaces. [5]

1400 Smith Street is a 691 ft (211 m) tall skyscraper located in downtown Houston, Texas, United States. The building has 50 floors and is the 11th tallest building in the city. Designed by architectural firm Lloyd Jones Brewer and Associates, the building was completed in 1983. The 1,200,000-square-foot (110,000 m2) office tower is situated on Houston's six-mile (10 km) pedestrian and retail tunnel system that links many of the city's downtown towers. The Calpine Center is a 453 ft (138m) tall postmodern skyscraper in Downtown Houston, Texas. The building has 33 floors of Class A office space. It is the 41st tallest building in the city. The building has the world headquarters of Calpine Corporation. Hines and Prime Asset Management jointly developed the building. The Houston office of HOK designed the building, and Turner Construction acted as the general contractor. It is connected to the downtown tunnel system. Mark Russell of Studley, a real estate firm, said that the Calpine Center is more efficient than many of the tall office buildings built in Houston in the early 1980s.

Total Plaza

Total Plaza is a tower in Downtown Houston, Texas, one block away from the Allen Center complex. The building, managed by Brookfield Properties, opened in 1971. The 35 story building, designed by the architect Lloyd, Morgan & Jones, was renovated in 1981 and 1996, and features a mirror-finished reflective glass on its exterior. Houston Club

The Houston Club is a private social club located in Houston, Texas. As of January 2013 the club is housed on 910 Louisiana Street in the Shell building in Downtown Houston. The club members are a part of Houston's business, civic, cultural, and financial communities. Members include business leaders, cultural leaders, consuls general, doctors, entrepreneurs, governors, mayors, and presidents. Notable members include former President of the United States George H. W. Bush and James Baker. Maggie Galehouse of the Houston Chronicle said, "In its heyday - the mid-1950s to the mid-1980s - the Houston Club was the power broker club in the city."
