Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suárez won the title, defeating Nadia Petrova and Meghann Shaughnessy in the final.

Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci were the defending champions, but Errani chose not to participate this year. Vinci played alongside Karin Knapp, but lost in the third round to Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova.

Julie Halard-Decugis and Ai Sugiyama were the defending champions, but did not compete this year.

The 2002 ANZ Tasmanian International was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the Hobart International Tennis Centre in Hobart, Australia and was part of Tier V of the 2002 WTA Tour. It was the ninth edition of the tournament and ran from 6 January until 12 January 2002. Unseeded Martina Suchá won the singles title and earned $16,000 first-prize money.

Yan Zi was the defending champion, but lost in first round to Olga Puchkova.

Adriana Serra Zanetti and Emily Stellato were the defending champions, but lost in the first round to eventual champions Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario.

Dája Bedáňová was the defending champion, but lost in the first round to Lilia Osterloh.

Cara Black and Elena Likhovtseva were the defending champions, but Likhovtseva chose to compete at Canberra during the same week. Black teamed up with Nicole Pratt and were forced to withdraw at the quarterfinals.

Alexandra Fusai and Rita Grande were the defending champions, but none competed this year. Grande chose to compete at Gold Coast during the same week.
