The team is led by second-year head coach Shaka Smart and plays their home games at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a member of the Big East Conference. The Eagles finished the season 29–7, 17–3 in Big East play to win the regular season championship. They defeated St. John's, UConn, and Xavier to win the Big East tournament. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East region. They defeated Vermont in the First Round before losing to Michigan State in the Second Round of the tournament.
