The 2003–04 Santiago South Premier Division season began on 23 December and finished on 2 May. Académica won the regional competition and qualified into the 2004 Cape Verdean Football Championships. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Santiago Sul, ARFSS). [1] [2] All matches were played at Campo de Sucupira which was temporarily used up until 2007. The field no longer exists today and several buildings dominate the former field.
The Santiago South Premier Division is a regional championship played in Santiago Island, Cape Verde and is a part of the Santiago South Zone Football Association. The winner of the championship plays in Cape Verdean football Championships of each season while the last two placed clubs relegates in the following season. In 2007 and 2013 when Sporting Praia automatically qualified in the championships as they won their national titles in the previous season, a second place club qualified to the national championships. The division features 12 clubs in the premier division for the second time, Varanda and Delta were relegated into the Second Division, Tchadense and Benfica were promoted last season.
The 2004 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 25th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 8 May and finished on 10 July, earlier than the last season. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation.
Santiago South Regional Football Association is a football (soccer) association covering the south of the island of Santiago, it is an affiliate of the Cape Verdean Football Federation. It is headquartered in the city of Praia. The association covers the municipalities of Praia, Ribeira Grande de Santiago and São Domingos.
Sporting Praia was the defending team of the title. A total of 10 clubs participated in the competition, only one division occurred again for the last time, the Premier Division. The main reason was that Tchadense, Varanda and Asa Grande continued to be withdrawn from the competition. [2]
A total of 266 goals were scored, 11 more than last season. Sporting, runner-up scored the most with 39, second was Académica with 38 and third was Boavista with 35. 9th placed Paiol scored the least with 12, second least was Delta with 16 and third least was Celtic with 21. On the opposites, last placed Delta conceded the most with 55, second was Paiol with 42 and third was Vitória with 32, Sporting conceded the least with 10. [2]
Académica's 45 point total once stood as a point record for just a season, Sporting took the record with 49 in 2005.
All matches were played at Campo de Sucupira near modern-day Estádio da Várzea.
Estádio da Várzea is a multi-purpose stadium in Praia, Cape Verde just west of the city center's plateau in the subdivision of Várzea and on Avenida Cidade de Lisboa on its east side. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000 people. The stadium is owned by the city of Praia and is operated by the Santiago South Regional Football Association and serves its headquarters of the association. The other stadium operated by the association in the south of the island is Calabaceira. The entrance is on the west side of the stadium where most of the seat is. The stadium has seat rows in the left and right sides, 200 meters east is the Plateau of Praia. Its size is 108 by 69 m, the longest part of the field goes north to south with a 15 degree angle facing east at the top. Its elevation is about 4 meters above sea level. A smaller practice field lies due south. The stadium is home to the four best football clubs in Cape Verde, Sporting, CD Travadores, Académica and Boavista FC the Santiago Island first division alongside Vitória FC, one of the region's best, it also home of Desportivo da Praia which is a military club and the lesser club Benfica Praia. Other teams that base in another part include ADESBA located in the nearby neighborhood of Craveiro Lopes some hundreds of meters north but play in the stadium.

The 2011–12 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 3 December and finished on 29 April. Sporting won the regional competition and qualified into the 2012 Cape Verdean Football Championships. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association.
The 2015–16 Santiago Island League (South) season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. Its started on 13 November 2014 and finished on 8 May 2016. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All the matches were played at Estádio da Várzea. Desportivo won the first and only title for the South Zone and participated in the 2016 Cape Verdean Football Championships and finished with 47 points, Desportivo's last title win for Santiago was in 1990 and totals three overall.
The 2015-16 Fogo Island League season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the island of Fogo, Cape Verde. Its started on 7 November 2014 and finished on 24 April 2015. The tournament was organized by the Fogo Regional Football Association. Vulcânicos won the ninth title and competed in the Cape Verdean National Championships in mid-May.
The 2016–17 Santiago South Premier Division season was the 15th second tier football competition in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, from 4 November 2016 to 30 April 2017. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All the matches were played at Estádio da Várzea. Sporting Praia won their next title in three years which was their 10th title and participated in the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and played in Group C that includes Sporting Brava, Sporting Praia had 55 points and made it a club record, overall of any regional tier 2 championship competitions, it was third behind of the clubs of the island's North Zone, GD Varandinha with 63 and Scorpion Vermelho with 61. Also Sporting Praia qualified in the 2017 Santiago South Super Cup and faced Os Garridos, runner up in the regional cup competitions as Sporting was also cup winner, Sporting would win that title.
The 2015-16 Santiago Island League (North) season was the competition of the second-tier football in the northern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. Its started on 12 December 2015 and finished on 8 May 2016. The tournament was organized by the Santiago North Regional Football Association. It was the first ever season without any group stage and would become the longest of any of the regional leagues in Cape Verde and the only that occurred as the following season became the same as the South Zone's. Varandinha won their first and only title after finishing a record breaking 63 points and a record 20 wins, the highest of any of the island leagues in the nation and competed in the national championships. It was one of the newest clubs to win their first titles of any island/regional league in the nation.
The 2016-17 Santo Antão Island League (South) season was the competition of the second-tier football in southern part the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. Its started on 12 November and finished on 26 March. The tournament was organized by the Santo Antão South Regional Football Association. Académica do Porto Novo won the 11th title and their 12th overall and finished with 34 points and participated in the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships in mid May and the first with changes as it will be divided into three groups, they played with Paulense, champion of the north of the island and Mindelense in which Académica Porto Novo lost to last season at the nationals along with the title.
The 2016–17 Maio Island League season was the 26th of the competition of the football competition in the island of Maio, Cape Verde and the second of the second and third tier football competitions. Its started on January 14 and finished on April 23, 2017. The tournament was organized by the Maio Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio 20 de Janeiro. Onze Unidos won their 10th title and finished with 25 points. Onze Unidos also qualified for both the regional Super Cup and the second Champion's Cup. Not one of the original seven, Real Marítimo was the second club to be relegated and the first of the clubs registered after 2009 to do so.
The 2016-17 Santo Antão Island League (South) season was the competition of the second-tier football in southern part the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. Its started on 12 November and finished on 26 March. The tournament was organized by the Santo Antão South Regional Football Association. Académica do Porto Novo won their 13th title and their 13th/15th overall and finished with 30 points and will participate in the 2018 Cape Verdean Football Championships in early April, second time in one of three groups, they will appear in Group A.

The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. The competition returned after the 2001 season was not held due to the condition of the stadium at the Municipal Stadium. All matches were played at Campo de Sucupira which was temporarily used up until 2007. The field no longer exists today and several buildings dominate the former field.

All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea and was the last season that some matches were played at Campo de Sucupira. The field no longer exists today and several buildings dominate the former field.
The 2007–08 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 17 November and finished on 4 May. Sporting, the possessor of the most regional titles overall on the island once more won the regional competition and qualified into the 2008 Cape Verdean Football Championships. With Sporting who won the national title last season, second placed AD Bairro also qualified and made their only national appearance. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea.
The 2008–09 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 8 November and finished on 3 May. Académica won their second title since the break-up and qualified into the 2009 Cape Verdean Football Championships, their title was the next in five years and their next national appearance in two years, also it was their sixth regional title and also qualified into the regional championships which was their recent competition, the club later won the island title. Also qualified was Sporting who won the national title last season, in the regionals, they were runner-up. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea.
The 2010–11 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 8 November and finished on 3 May. Boavista won their first title since the break-up and qualified into the 2011 Cape Verdean Football Championships. Boavista won the national title for 2010 which the runner up Sporting also qualified for the season. The next time a second participant from Santiago South would be in 2013. Also Boavista was to qualify into the super cup as champion and also as cup winner, but that competition did not took place. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea.
The 2017–18 Brava Island Championships season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the island of Brava, Cape Verde. Its started on December 23,, 2017 and finished March 25, 2018, earlier than last season. The championship was governed by the Brava Regional Football Association. SC Morabeza won their 10th and recent title, also it was their next in eight years, Morabeza will play in Group C.
The 2017–18 Santiago South Premier Division season was the 16th second tier football competition in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, from 3 November 2017 to 1 April 2018, a month earlier than last season. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea. Académica Praia won their next title in nine years and participated in the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and played in Group A. Académica finished with a new regional record of 56 points, beating Sporting Praia's 55 of the previous season, overall of any regional championship competitions, it is third behind of the clubs of the island's North Zone, GD Varandinha with 63 and Scorpion Vermelho with 61. Sporting Praia, the previous national champion also qualified, the club finished fourth for the season. Académica Praia will qualify in the upcoming 2018 Santiago South Super Cup.
The 2016-17 Sal Island League season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the island of Sal, Cape Verde and fourth as the Premier Division. The season started on December 2, 2017 and finished on March 25, 2018. The competition was organized by the Sal Regional Football Association. GD Palmeira won their third title, their next title in 18 years and their national participation currently participating in Group C at the 2018 Cape Verdean Football Championships. Its matches were played at Estádio Marcelo Leitão.
The 2017–18 São Vicente Island Championships season was the 89th of the competition of the second and third tiers of football in the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde. The Premier Division started on 9 December 2017 and finished on 25 March 2018. The championships were organized and governed by the São Vicente Regional Football Association. CS Mindelense won the 50th title and later qualified into the 2018 Cape Verdean Football Championships on April 7. Mindelense will qualify into the regional Super Cup as champion later in the year and will face the cup winner Batuque.
