The 2015 Santiago South Super Cup was the 4th annual and a single knockout match featuring the winner of the 2014-15 regional championship Boavista FC, as the club was also the 2014-15 cup winner, runner up in the cup competition Académica da Praia competed. [1]

Boavista FC (Cape Verde)

Boavista Futebol Clube is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Santiago Island South Zone League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Praia in the island of Santiago. The team has only reached a few of these games before and after independence. Its current president is Luis Manuel Semedo who once coached Boa Vista's Académica Operária. and its manager is Nelito Antunes.

Associação Académica da Praia is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Santiago Island League (South) in Cape Verde. It is played along with Praia's three other famous teams in Estádio da Varzea, the club also practices at the stadium and over a kilometer east in Achada Grande Frente. Its current president is Kiki and manager is Janito Carvalho who coached Sporting Praia in the previous season.

Estádio da Várzea stadium

Estádio da Várzea is a multi-purpose stadium in Praia, Cape Verde just west of the city center's plateau in the subdivision of Várzea and on Avenida Cidade de Lisboa on its east side. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000 people. The stadium is owned by the city of Praia and is operated by the Santiago South Regional Football Association and serves its headquarters of the association. The other stadium operated by the association in the south of the island is Calabaceira. The entrance is on the west side of the stadium where most of the seat is. The stadium has seat rows in the left and right sides, 200 meters east is the Plateau of Praia. Its size is 108 by 69 m, the longest part of the field goes north to south with a 15 degree angle facing east at the top. Its elevation is about 4 meters above sea level. A smaller practice field lies due south. The stadium is home to the four best football clubs in Cape Verde, Sporting, CD Travadores, Académica and Boavista FC the Santiago Island first division alongside Vitória FC, one of the region's best, it also home of Desportivo da Praia which is a military club and the lesser club Benfica Praia. Other teams that base in another part include ADESBA located in the nearby neighborhood of Craveiro Lopes some hundreds of meters north but play in the stadium.

The finals were televised and listened on radio on Rádio Praia. They were also listened throughout the island, Maio, Fogo and Brava from the same station.

The next super cup match took place in October 2017 as the following edition was canceled as the Boavista-Delta regional cup final which was to be played in May 2016 was not rescheduled until April 2017 and the super cup match with Desportivo da Praia, the 2016 regional champion, later rescheduled to be played for 2017 was not held.

Desportivo da Praia is a football club that currently plays in the Premier division and the Santiago Island League (South) in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago. It is the military team of Cape Verde. Its nickname is militares. The team won the first and only regional opening tournament in 2014.

Background

Boavista Praia never played a regional super cup match, Académica Praia last appeared in the competition in 2007, this edition became their second and recent for the club. [1]

No goals were scored during the first half. During the second half at the 72nd minute, Boavista Praia's Vika scored the match's only goal. Later, Boavista won their only super cup title for the south of Santiago.

The 2014–15 Santiago Island League (South) season was the competition of the second-tier football in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. Its started on 5 December 2013 and finished on 26 April 2014. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. Boavista won the second and most recent title and participated in the 2015 Cape Verdean Football Championships.

The Santiago South Super Cup is a regional super cup competition played during the season in the south of Santiago, Cape Verde consisting the municipalities of Praia, Ribeira Grande de Santiago and São Domingos. The competition is organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. Its current champions is Sporting Praia who won their third and recent title. The regional champion competes with the cup champion. If a champion also has a cup title, a cup club who is runner-up qualifies. The upcoming edition will feature the champion Académica da Praia and the cup winner Sporting Praia.

Sporting Clube da Praia, short form: Sporting Praia is a professional football club that plays in the Santiago South Premier Division in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago, one of the unrelegated clubs in the south of the island along with three of the city's four historically mightiest clubs including Académica, Boavista and CD Travadores. Along with Académcia, Boavista, Desportivo, Travadores and Vitória, it is one of several teams that share the same ground, Estádio da Várzea, which has a capacity of 8,000. The 2011–12 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 3 December and finished on 29 April. Sporting won the regional competition and qualified into the 2012 Cape Verdean Football Championships. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association.

The 2008 Cape Verdean Football Championships season was the 29th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 10 May and finished on 16 August, later than the last season. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Sporting would win their 7th title and third straight after defeating Académica do Mindelo in penalty kicks. Sporting gained entry into the 2009 CAF Champions League, it is the last club to enter to date. No second place club would participate in the 2009 CAF Confederation Cup.

The 2010 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 31st of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 8 May, slightly later than the last season and finished on 10 July, later than last year. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. CS Mindelense won the eleventh title and became the second club after Sporting Praia to win three in a row. The season started on 25 November and finished on 7 May. The cup competition was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All the matches are played at Estádio da Várzea. Sporting Clube da Praia won their recent cup title. As Sporting Praia were also 2016-17 champions on April 8, Garridos achieved qualification into the upcoming 2017 Santiago South Super Cup, its qualification status was runner-up.

The 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 38th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. It started on 13 May and finished on 27 August, it started a days later than last season. Originally to finish on 15 July, instead, it was rescheduled to 27 August. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation.

2010–11 Santiago Island League (South)

The 2010–11 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 8 November and finished on 3 May. Boavista won their first title since the break-up and qualified into the 2011 Cape Verdean Football Championships. Boavista won the national title for 2010 which the runner up Sporting also qualified for the season. The next time a second participant from Santiago South would be in 2013. Also Boavista was to qualify into the super cup as champion and also as cup winner, but that competition did not took place. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea.

The 2017–18 Santiago South Premier Division season was the 16th second tier football competition in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, from 3 November 2017 to 1 April 2018, a month earlier than last season. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea. Académica Praia won their next title in nine years and participated in the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and played in Group A. Académica finished with a new regional record of 56 points, beating Sporting Praia's 55 of the previous season, overall of any regional championship competitions, it is third behind of the clubs of the island's North Zone, GD Varandinha with 63 and Scorpion Vermelho with 61. The cup competition was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Group A matches took place at Estádio Adérito Sena in Mindelo, São Vicente and Group B matches took place at Estádio Marcelo Leitão in Espargos. The final stage containing two semifinal matches and a final were played at Estádio da Várzea. Boavista Praia won their first of two cup title.
