The 2007 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 27 January and finished on 8 May and was the last time held in a single year. Sporting again won the regional competition and qualified into the 2007 Cape Verdean Football Championships. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Santiago Sul, ARFSS). [1] [2] All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea and was the last season that some matches were played at Campo de Sucupira. The field no longer exists today and several buildings dominate the former field.

The Santiago South Premier Division is a regional championship played in Santiago Island, Cape Verde and is a part of the Santiago South Zone Football Association. The winner of the championship plays in Cape Verdean football Championships of each season while the last two placed clubs relegates in the following season. In 2007 and 2013 when Sporting Praia automatically qualified in the championships as they won their national titles in the previous season, a second place club qualified to the national championships. The division features 12 clubs in the premier division for the second time, Varanda and Delta were relegated into the Second Division, Tchadense and Benfica were promoted last season.

The 2007 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 28th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 12 May and finished on 21 July, earlier than the last season. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Sporting would win their 6th title and second straight after defeating Académica do Mindelo under the away goals rule, the only time it happened, the scorer was Dário who scored their only goal at the finals during stoppage time. They would have entry to the 2008 CAF Champions League. No second place team would also participate in the 2008 CAF Confederation Cup

Santiago South Regional Football Association is a football (soccer) association covering the south of the island of Santiago, it is an affiliate of the Cape Verdean Football Federation. It is headquartered in the city of Praia. The association covers the municipalities of Praia, Ribeira Grande de Santiago and São Domingos.

Again, Sporting Praia was the defending team of the title. A total of 18 clubs participated in the competition, 10 in both divisions. [2]

Overview

A total of 236 goals were scored, three more than last season. Sporting scored the most with 39, second were Travadores and Boavista with 28. The least was Vila Nova with 14, second were Celtic with 16 and third was Lapaloma with 19. [2] On the opposites, Delta conceded the most with 37, second least was Desportivo with 36 and third least was Celtic with 32. Académica conceded the least with eight.

The top five clubs finished in the same position as they had last season.

In the Second Division competition,, AD Ribeira Grande won the title and would be promoted next season. 9th placed Celtic remained in the division after winning the decisional match competitions. Lapaloma was relegated and competed in the Second Division next season, they did not return into the Premier Division until the 2015-16 season until a merger with one of the clubs that became Eugénio Lima FC in 2015.

The 2015–16 Santiago Island League (South) season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. Its started on 13 November 2014 and finished on 8 May 2016. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All the matches were played at Estádio da Várzea. Desportivo won the first and only title for the South Zone and participated in the 2016 Cape Verdean Football Championships and finished with 47 points, Desportivo's last title win for Santiago was in 1990 and totals three overall.

It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago and plays in the stadium with a capacity of 8,000 The club never won a championship title, they have two cup titles. Its sports include football (soccer), basketball, futsal, similar to arena football and volleyball. Its current president Carlos Sena Teixeira and its manager is Daniel Cardoso who came in February 2017. Its nickname is canarinha which is Portuguese for the little canary.

The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All the matches were played at Estádio da Várzea. Sporting Praia won their next title in three years which was their 10th title and participated in the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and played in Group C that includes Sporting Brava, Sporting Praia had 55 points and made it a club record, overall of any regional tier 2 championship competitions, it was third behind of the clubs of the island's North Zone, GD Varandinha with 63 and Scorpion Vermelho with 61. 2007–08 Santiago Island League (South)

The 2007–08 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 17 November and finished on 4 May. Sporting, the possessor of the most regional titles overall on the island once more won the regional competition and qualified into the 2008 Cape Verdean Football Championships. With Sporting who won the national title last season, second placed AD Bairro also qualified and made their only national appearance. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea.

2008–09 Santiago Island League (South)

The 2008–09 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 8 November and finished on 3 May. Académica won their second title since the break-up and qualified into the 2009 Cape Verdean Football Championships, their title was the next in five years and their next national appearance in two years, also it was their sixth regional title and also qualified into the regional championships which was their recent competition, the club later won the island title. Also qualified was Sporting who won the national title last season, in the regionals, they were runner-up. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea.

2010–11 Santiago Island League (South)

The 2010–11 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 8 November and finished on 3 May. Boavista won their first title since the break-up and qualified into the 2011 Cape Verdean Football Championships. Boavista won the national title for 2010 which the runner up Sporting also qualified for the season. The next time a second participant from Santiago South would be in 2013. Also Boavista was to qualify into the super cup as champion and also as cup winner, but that competition did not took place. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea.

The 2017–18 Santiago South Premier Division season was the 16th second tier football competition in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, from 3 November 2017 to 1 April 2018, a month earlier than last season. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea. Académica Praia won their next title in nine years and participated in the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and played in Group A. Académica finished with a new regional record of 56 points, beating Sporting Praia's 55 of the previous season, overall of any regional championship competitions, it is third behind of the clubs of the island's North Zone, GD Varandinha with 63 and Scorpion Vermelho with 61. Sporting Praia, the previous national champion also qualified, the club finished fourth for the season. Académica Praia will qualify in the upcoming 2018 Santiago South Super Cup.
