Cape Verde Country comprising ten islands off the Northwest coast of Africa

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

Santiago, Cape Verde largest island of Cape Verde

Santiago is the largest island of Cape Verde, its most important agricultural centre and home to half the nation’s population. Part of the Sotavento Islands, it lies between the islands of Maio and Fogo. It was the first of the islands to be settled: the town of Ribeira Grande was founded in 1462. Santiago is home to the nation's capital city of Praia.

History

Celtic da Praia was founded on July 1, 1972 in the last three years of Portuguese control over the Cape Verde Islands. In 1997, Celtic Praia celebrated its 25th anniversary of its foundation.

In 2002, Celtic finished fifth. They had 22 points, their point totals sagged until their 2009 relegation. For the next two seasons in 2005, they finished 7th. Celtic scored 36 goals in 2003 which became their club record. A year later, Celtic made the most draws in a season numbering 10 . From 2006 to 2008, Celtic was 8th place, as they had 11 losses, they played in the decisional match instead of a ninth placed club, they scored the most goals in its two matches and remained for the next four seasons. The club had 17 points for two seasons in 2007. Celtic had four wins for two seasons in 2008 and 10 losses, their pariticipation became worst, in 2009, they finished 9th and had 3 wins, 11 losses and only 9 goals scored, Celtic conceded 9 goals and was put in playing two division decisional matches, Celtic scored the fewest and was immediately relegated into the Second Division.

In 2010, Celtic Praia played for a season in the Second Division and won the title and returned for the 2011 season, their participation was no-good as they finished 9th with 17 points and had 5 wins, 11 losses and 17 points, Celtic was better in goal scoring, more than double with 21. Celtic had to play two division decisional matches which the club scored the most goals and kept being a Premier Division club. It was the last time they finished 9th. Celtic's performance from 2012 to 2017 were from low to moderate. The finished 7th in 2012, Celtic that season had 16 points and 12 goals scored. Later, Celtic finished 5th in 2013 and made their point record numbering 27. A year later, Celtic finished 8th in 2014 with another season finishing with 16 points and in two years again had four wins and draws and scored 13 goals. Their position was better in 2015 as they finished 4th with 27 points and their point record was tied. With a four additional match season in the 2015-16 season, their positions was two lower which was 6th but others were successful, slightly on its goals with 26 but more on wins with 11 and points with 38, both of these became Celtic Praia's record. Celtic had another double position loss for 2017, 8th with 24 points, they had six wins and scored fewer goals numbering 22, their worst was they conceded 28 goals, more than last season. Celtic started out at the 2017 Cup at the Round of 8, they defeated ADESBA. Celtic Praia ended its match with Vitória with goal draw but won 4-3 in penalties and started to have a good cup season. Celtic lost to Garridos in the semis and had its greatest success for the season.

Celtic started off moderate for the 2017-18 season, they achieved first place. At the fifth round with 13 points, one ahead of Académica, at the sixth round, Celtic defeated Benfica 3-0 and had 16 points, they were three ahead of Boavista, Celtic scored the most for a few rounds, and had 11 goals, shared with Praia's one of four best (historically five best) clubs Sporting Praia. Celtic defeated Tira Chapéu 3-1. As Sporting had 17 points last season at the 7th round, Celtic has 19 points at the round and was still the one with first place in the region, 14 goals they scored and that ranking fell to fourth behind Sporting. A failure later that Celtic would made as they lost to almighty Sporting 1-2 on December 29 and this season the last club to get a loss in Santiago South early. Celtic would become second place in recent rounds after Académica Praia's rescheduled matches were made, their recent win was a Ribeira Grande ruing Celtic's loss to Sporting. Celtic had 25 points up to the 11th round. Celtic lost to Acaémica 0-1 on January 14 and lost a position to Boavista and became third, ahead of almighty Sporting. Celtic attempted their battle to return to second place and be one of the city's (and Sotavento's) mightiest clubs, they won it with a 2-1 victory over the mighty Boavista and was second alongside Boavista with 28 points. Celtic recently made a goal draw with Desportivo, their next draw in eight matches, Boavista's win over Tira Chapéu lost Celtic's position down to third with 29 points. Celtic made two more wins, first 2-0 over ailing Eugénio Lima at round 14 and was another back to back win for Celtic, also Celtic's 24 goal total matches Sporting this round and remains third in Santiago South. Then, they defeated Bairro 3-1, wins made by the top two clubs Boavista and Académica prevented a chance for Celtic being first, they were still third with 35 points and remain even to Celtic's loss to Tchadense with the score 0-1 which was on February 17 but one opportunity on their never-ever chance for a regional title and national championship participation is now mostly lost. Celtic has 27 goals and have become one of the club records in goal scoring in Santiago South. Celtic's loss also prevented the club from tying their 2015-16 club record in points which was 38, it remained prevented into the next round as they made a two goal draw with Benfica instead of a new pinnacle Celtlc would have reached with 39 points. Celtic is still third, but dissolved their half of the attempt of a championship title and a national championship participation due to Académica Praia's victory over Boavista, both continue to have two positions over Celtic with Académica being first. Celtic finally reached a new pinnacle of point totals surpassed their 38 made in the 2016 season as Celtic defeated AD Tira Chapéu (their second meeting) which that club has a possibility of facing relegation, the result was 0-2. Due to Académica's win, Celtic had a few remaining chances left of possibly claiming a regional title. Also one small chance of making a seasonal goal record is there as they had 31 goals scored, the record is 36 goals made in the 2002-03 season and Celtic may have made a season win record with 12, beating their 11 in the 2015-16 season. Celtic made their 13th win as they defeated Travadores 2-1 on March 10, their wins became a record, 33 goals are scored, now the same with Sporting, their point record continued to soar with their 42. Due to Académica's win, Celtic now has one final chance of claiming a regional title and earning their national participation.
