The 2015–16 Maio Second Division season was the first ever third tier competition of the second-tier football in the island of Maio, Cape Verde It started on 23 January and finished on 28 February, earlier than the Premier Division. The tournament was organized by the Maio Regional Football Association (Associação Regional do Maio de Futebol, ARMF). [1] Real Marítimo won their first title and headed to the Premier Division next season, they also qualified into the Maio Champion's Cup where they would be the first winner.

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

A total of only four clubs competed in the edition including Cruzeiro, Figueirense, Miramar and Real Marítimo. A new club Santa Clara from Alcatraz-Pilão Cao would compete in the regionals for the first time in the Second Division, Beira-Mar chose to be the first club to be relegated in the regionals, originally a five match-division, Beira-Mar's withdrawal reduced it to four in the following season. Real Marítmo won the 2016 Second Division and became the eight club to compete in the Premier Division, also the club qualified for the first time into the regional Champions' Cup.

The next time the Second Division had four clubs would be the 2017-18 season with an additional club added to the Premier Division, the 2015-16 season was the only season that a club met twice, next time, they would meet three times.

Calheta, Cape Verde Settlement in Maio, Cape Verde

Calheta is a town in the western part of the island of Maio. It is situated on the Atlantic coast, around 11 km north of the island capital Porto Inglês and 6 km north of Morro. Its population at the 2010 census was 1,156, making it the island's second most populous settlement. The settlement was mentioned as "Kalyete" in the 1747 map by Jacques-Nicolas Bellin.

Ribeira Dom João Settlement in Maio, Cape Verde

Ribeira Dom João is a settlement in the southeast of the island of Maio in Cape Verde. It lies near the coast, 4 km east of Barreiro and 10 km east of Porto Inglês. As of the 2010 census, its population was 203.
