The 2015–16 Académico 83 season were in the island division of football (soccer). The club won their seventh and recent Maio championship title and entered the 2016 Cape Verdean Football Championships in Group A. [1] [2]

The 2016 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 37th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. It started on 14 May and finished on 9 July, it started five days later than last season and finished two days earlier, the season was a week shorter than last. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The scheduling was completed on November 16 and the group system was kept insteading of becoming a one portion season without playoffs and was the last time. CS Mindelense won the record breaking title and became the second club after Sporting Praia to win four in a row, the highest ever, also it was Mindelense's last. Mindelense chose to not participate in the CAF Champions League competition in 2017, Académica do Porto Novo did not participate in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup, both of the clubs due to financial concerns, of any club, it is the eighth consecutive time and becomes the recent African nation not to bring a champion to the continentals for the most consecutive years, in the cup competition, Cape Verde is the longest for not bringing a club in Africa lasting for more than 15 years straight, not even the three national cup winners competed. Mindelense qualfiied and participated in the 2017 National Championships.

The club had a total of 34 points (29 in the regionals and 5 in the nationals), and 39 goals (34 goals in the regionals and 5 goals in the nationals). In the regionals, the club also had 9 wins, 2 draws and a loss.

Maio Premier Division [1]

It was the first season that was labelled the Premier Division. Like last season, they played with Académica from the west of the island and ended in a single goal draw.

The club finished as regional champion, and qualified for the last time into the national championships in May. [3]

Maio (Djarmai) Super Cup

Académico 83, the 2015 regional champion faced the 2015 cup winner Onze Unidos in November and lost the super cup match.

Associação Académico 83 do Porto Inglês is a football (soccer) club that plays in the Maio Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Porto Inglês, island of Maio. Its current president is Edvaldo Soares and its coach is Nando. Since the implementation of the Second Division in 2015, Académico 83 are now the five unrelegated clubs of the island.

Onze Unidos won their 10th title and finished with 25 points. Onze Unidos also qualified for both the regional Super Cup and the second Champion's Cup. Not one of the original seven, Real Marítimo was the second club to be relegated and the first of the clubs registered after 2009 to do so.

The club finished runner up behind Académico do Aeroporto with 29 points and the same points with Juventude who was third as they scored 30 goals, 10 less than Santa Maria's.
