The 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held from May 24 through 28 at Jim Houlihan Park at Jack Coffey Field in The Bronx, NY. It featured the top six regular-season finishers of the conference's 14 teams. Fifth-seeded Saint Louis defeated St. Bonaventure in the title game to win the tournament for the first time, earning the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA tournament. [1]

Seeding and format

The league's top six teams, based on winning percentage in the 27-game regular-season schedule, were seeded one through six. The top two seeds, Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure, received byes into the second round of play in the double elimination tournament. [1]

It was the sixth consecutive year that the tournament was hosted in Boardwalk Hall, matching the longest streak at one site since the tournament was held at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1997–2002. However, it was the tournament's final year in the run at Boardwalk Hall, as the event moved to Brooklyn's new Barclays Center in 2013. The 2012 tournament was also the last to use campus sites for the opening round, as all tournament games will be played in Brooklyn under the new deal.

The Rhode Island Rams baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball team of the University of Rhode Island, located in Kingston, Rhode Island, United States. The program has been a member of the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference since the start of the 1981 season. Since the 1966 season, the program has played at Bill Beck Field, located on the university's campus. The program has appeared in two NCAA tournaments.
