The Duquesne Dukes represent Duquesne University in college basketball. The team, which started in 1914, has only ever played in NCAA Division I and has had six appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Dukes play in the Atlantic 10 Conference, of which they have been members since 1976. Their head basketball coach is Keith Dambrot.
The 2008 Atlantic 10 men's basketball tournament was played at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey from March 12 to March 15, 2008. By winning the tournament, Temple received an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament and was crowned Atlantic 10 Conference champion. Xavier and Saint Joseph's also received at-large bids to the NCAA tournament. Dionte Christmas of Temple was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
The Charlotte 49ers men's basketball team represents the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in NCAA Division I basketball. Charlotte is a member of the American Athletic Conference, which they joined in 2023 after 10 seasons in Conference USA. Charlotte, which had been a charter C-USA member from 1995, returned to that conference in 2013 after leaving in 2005 to join the Atlantic 10 Conference. The 49ers have also played in the Sun Belt Conference and were a member of the Metro Conference, which merged with the Great Midwest Conference to form Conference USA.
The 2012 Atlantic 10 men's basketball tournament was played initially at campus sites for the opening round on March 6, 2012 and subsequently at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey from March 9 through March 11, 2012. It was the sixth consecutive year that the tournament was hosted in Boardwalk Hall, matching the longest streak at one site since the tournament was held at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1997–2002. However, it was the tournament's final year in the run at Boardwalk Hall, as the event moved to Brooklyn's new Barclays Center in 2013. The 2012 tournament was also the last to use campus sites for the opening round, as all tournament games will be played in Brooklyn under the new deal.
The 2013 Atlantic 10 Conference baseball tournament was the postseason baseball tournament of the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference. It took place from May 22 through 25. The top seven regular season finishers of the league's fifteen teams met in the double-elimination tournament to be held at newly renovated Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the championship game, first-seeded Saint Louis defeated second-seeded Charlotte, 7-4, to win its third tournament championship. Saint Louis earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. As a team, SLU collected 92 hits in six days, shattering the previous A-10 Tournament record of 65.
Scott Googins is an American college baseball coach who was most recently the head coach of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats Baseball Team. Googins was hired at Cincinnati on June 6, 2017 and resigned in May of 2023 following the conclusion of the Bearcats' 2023 season, shortly after multiple assistants were fired for failing to report a sports gambling scandal. He left Xavier after being the skipper of the Musketeers baseball team since the start of the 2006 season. Under Googins, Xavier appeared in three NCAA tournaments. In 2008, he was named the A-10 Coach of the Year, and in 2009, he was named the ABCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year. Googins is an alumnus of Ohio Wesleyan University, where he played baseball for the Battling Bishops.
