The 2007 J&S Cup was a Tier II event on the 2007 WTA Tour that ran from 30 April until 6 May 2007. It was held in Warsaw, Poland, and was the 12th year that the event was staged. Justine Henin won her second Warsaw title and third overall of the year after other victories in Dubai and Doha.
The event was also Kim Clijsters' last professional tournament before taking a break from the sport to start a family. The Belgian lost in the second round to qualifier Julia Vakulenko, and just a few days after announced her retirement from professional tennis. She would eventually return to the sport in 2009 after giving birth to a daughter in 2008.

Justine Henin is a Belgian former world No. 1 tennis player. She spent a total of 117 weeks as the world No. 1 and was the year-end No. 1 in 2003, 2006 and 2007. Henin, coming from a country with limited success in tennis, helped establish Belgium as a leading force in women's tennis alongside Kim Clijsters, and led the country to its first Fed Cup crown in 2001. She was known for her all-court style of play and for being one of the few female players to use a single-handed backhand.
Alona Volodymyrivna Bondarenko Dyachok is a Ukrainian former tennis player. Her sisters Valeria and Kateryna Bondarenko are also tennis players.
Vera Yevgenyevna Dushevina is a Russian former professional tennis player.

Two-time defending champion Justine Henin defeated Ana Ivanovic in the final, 6–1, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2007 French Open. It was her fourth French Open title. For the second consecutive year, Henin won the title without losing a set or facing a tiebreak in any set during the tournament. Ivanovic became the first player representing Serbia to reach a major final.

It was Ivanovic's second runner-up finish in as many major finals, though she would win the French Open a few months later.

Elena Viacheslavovna Dementieva is a Russian former professional tennis player. She won the singles gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, having previously won the silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. She won 16 WTA singles titles, reached the finals of the 2004 French Open and 2004 US Open and reached seven other Grand Slam semifinals. Dementieva was also part of the Russian team that won the 2005 Fed Cup. In doubles, she won the 2002 WTA Championships with Janette Husárová and was the runner-up in two US Open doubles finals – in 2002 with Husárová and in 2005 with Flavia Pennetta. Dementieva achieved a career-high ranking of world No. 3, which was accomplished on 6 April 2009. She announced her retirement on 29 October 2010, after her final match at the 2010 WTA Championships. Between 2003 and 2010, she only ended one year, in 2007, outside the top 10. She is considered to be one of the most talented players never to have won a Grand Slam tournament.

Nadia Petrova defeated the defending champion Justine Henin-Hardenne in the final, 4–6, 6–4, 7–5 to win the singles tennis title at the 2006 WTA German Open. This was the third consecutive title for Petrova over a span of a month, extending her winning streak to a career-high 15 matches.
