On July 31, 2007, Jordan held mayoral and council elections in 94 municipalities. As in past elections, the Municipality of Greater Amman (MOGA) was exempt from the full election; only half of the 68-member council was elected, while the other half of the MOGA council, along with the mayor, was appointed by the King of Jordan.

Jordan Arab country in Western Asia

Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is an Arab country in Western Asia, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and the east, Iraq to the north-east, Syria to the north and Israel and Palestine to the west. The Dead Sea is located along its western borders and the country has a short 26-kilometre (16 mi) coastline on the Red Sea in its extreme south-west, but is otherwise landlocked. Jordan is strategically located at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe. The capital, Amman, is Jordan's most populous city as well as the country's economic, political and cultural centre.

Amman is the capital and most populous city of Jordan, and the country's economic, political and cultural centre. Situated in north-central Jordan, Amman is the administrative centre of the Amman Governorate. The city has a population of 4,007,526 and a land area of 1,680 square kilometres. Today, Amman is considered to be among the most modernized Arab cities. It is a major tourist destination in the region, particularly among Arab and European tourists.

The elections were the first to take place under new legislation that guarantees at least twenty percent of elected positions to women candidates and lowers the age of eligible voters from 19 to 18.

Politics of Jordan Government system

The politics of Jordan takes place in a framework of a parliamentary monarchy, whereby the Prime Minister of Jordan is head of government, and of a multi-party system. Jordan is a constitutional monarchy based on the constitution promulgated on January 8, 1952. The king exercises his power through the government he appoints which is responsible before the Parliament.

Governorates of Jordan

Jordan is divided into three regions, further into twelve governorates (muhafatha), further subdivided into districts (liwa), and often into sub-districts (qda).

Amman Governorate, officially known as Muhafazat al-Asima, is one of the governorates in Jordan. The governorate's capital is the city of Amman, which is also the country's capital. The administrative center of the governorate as well as all government offices and parliament are located in the Abdali district.

Al-Abdali District in Amman Governorate, Jordan

Al-Abdali is the 9th district in the Amman Governorate out of the 27 districts, it is named relative to King Abdullah I who founded it during the 1940s. It covers an area of 15 square kilometres (6 sq mi) in the heart of Amman, with a population of 165,333 in 2015. Large parts of the district are residential, but due its geographical location in the center of the city, it contains several important governmental buildings and businesses. The area is known for containing several bus stations serving routes to many cities in Jordan.

Governorates of Bahrain

Bahrain is divided into four Governorates: the Capital, Northern, Southern and Muharraq. Until September 2014, there were five, when the Central Governorate was abolished.

Barjas Al-Hadid, sometimes known as Shaikh Barjas Shaher Al Hadid, is Shaikh of the Jordanian Al-Hadid tribe and member of the Parliament of Jordan. As well as being leader of the 30,000-member Balqa Governorate-based Al-Hadid tribe, Barjas Al-Hadid was formerly a member of the Royal Jordanian Air Force. As Sheikh, Al-Hadid's duties have included mediating in disputes, including blood feuds, which arise between Jordanian tribe members, within whose families tribal law still exists. Significant numbers of the al-Hadid tribe are also found in Syria and Iraq, and the Sheikh has been dispatched to Saudi Arabia and Iraq in order to mediate. Al-Hadid's position as elected Member of Parliament came partially as a result of the large amount of land owned by his tribe and the influence it brings. Between 1947 and 1967 a member of the Hadids occupied a seat in the Chamber of Deputies.

Local government in the Australian state of Victoria consist of 79 local government areas (LGAs). Also referred to as municipalities, Victorian LGAs are classified as cities (34), shires (38), rural cities (6) and boroughs (1). In general, an urban or suburban LGA is called a city and is governed by a City Council, while a rural LGA covering a larger rural area is usually called a shire and is governed by a Shire Council. Local councils have the same administrative functions and similar political structures, regardless of their classification. They will typically have an elected council and usually a mayor or shire president responsible for chairing meetings of the council. The City of Melbourne has a Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor, who are directly elected, and in the other councils a mayor and deputy mayor are elected by fellow Councillors from among their own number. Since 2017, the mayor of the City of Greater Geelong has not been directly elected. In addition, there are also 10 unincorporated areas, consisting of small islands or ski resorts, which are administered either by the state government or management boards.

Ahmad Khalaf al-Dulaimi is an Iraqi politician and was the Governor of Al Anbar province from August 2013 to December 2014.

Mohammad Mahseiri was a Jordanian politician. He was chosen as a member of the House of Representatives in the 23 January 2013 elections. He was chosen for the Second District of Amman Governorate and he died of a heart attack only a week after his election. On 21 April 2013 a by-election was held to fill Mahseiri's seat, with the seat being won by his brother Abed Mahseiri.

Governorate council (Jordan)

Governorate council is an elected local assembly in Jordan. The concept was founded by a 2015 decentralization law, and was first established in the 2017 local elections.

On 15 August 2017, Jordan held local elections for three levels of government: mayoralties, municipal and local councils, and governorate councils.
