The 2008 Adamawa State gubernatorial by-election occurred on April 26, 2008. [1] [2] [3] Incumbent PDP Governor Murtala Nyako won re-election in the supplementary election, defeating ACN candidate to emerge winner. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20]

Murtala Nyako emerged winner in the PDP gubernatorial primary election. His running mate was Bala James Ngilari. [21]

Electoral system

The Governor of Adamawa State is elected using the plurality voting system.

Results

There were 12 parties registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest in the re-run election. [2] The two main contenders were PDP Governor Murtala Nyako, who won the contest, and ACN's Markus Gundiri, who follows closely. [22] [23] [24]

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is a Nigerian politician who has served as governor of Adamawa State since 2019. He was a member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and served as Speaker of the Assembly. He became the acting governor of Adamawa State following the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako in July 2014, serving until 1 October 2014.

The 2015 Kaduna State gubernatorial election occurred on April 11, 2015. Nasir el-Rufai of the APC took a clear lead against the incumbent governor and PDP, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero candidate in the election. The APC candidate won in 17 LGAs, while the PDP claimed the other six.

The 2012 Ondo State gubernatorial election occurred on October 20, 2012. Incumbent governor, LP's Olusegun Mimiko won election for a second term, defeating other party candidates. Mimiko received 43.79% of the total vote and won in 13 of the state's 18 LGAs, closely followed by PDP's Olusola Oke who won in two LGAs with 26.25% of total votes, while the ACN candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, who won in three LGAs came third with 24.15% of the votes. Mimiko becomes the first Incumbent governor of Ondo State to be re-elected.

The 2009 Ekiti State gubernatorial election was held on 25 April 2009. It was, however, not until 5 May 2009, that the exercise was concluded due to electoral violence. Incumbent PDP Governor Segun Oni won re-election in the supplementary election, defeating AC Kayode Fayemi candidate to emerge winner.

The 2012 Adamawa State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on February 4, 2012. The PDP nominee Murtala Nyako won the election, defeating Markus Gundiri of the ACN.

The 2008 Bayelsa State gubernatorial election occurred on May 24, 2008. Incumbent PDP Governor Timipre Sylva won re-election in the supplementary election, defeating AC candidate, Ebitimi Amgbare, to emerge winner. Sylva won in six LGAs of the state.

The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held for state governors in 31 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but three elections were held on 18 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly, three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State, Kogi State, and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all states were in 2019. All states have a two term limit for Governors which makes 18 incumbent governors ineligible for re-election.

The 2023 Adamawa State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Adamawa State, concurrent with elections to the Adamawa State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (PDP) was re-elected by a 3.75% margin over first runner-up and APC nominee — Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed.

The 2023 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, concurrent with elections to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Former commissioner Umo Eno held the office for the PDP by a 34% margin over first runner-up and YPP nominee — Senator Bassey Albert Akpan.

The 2023 Taraba State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Taraba State, concurrent with elections to the Taraba State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Darius Ishaku is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
