The 2012 Adamawa State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on February 4, 2012. The PDP nominee Murtala Nyako won the election, defeating Markus Gundiri of the ACN. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]

Murtala Nyako emerged as PDP candidate. He picked Bala James Ngilari as his running mate. [10] Markus Gundiri was the ACN candidate with Abdulrazak Namdas as his running mate. [11]

Primary election

PDP primary

The PDP primary election was held on October 24, 2011. Murtala Nyako emerged PDP flag bearer after polling 854 votes and defeating his closest rival, Umar Ardo who withdrew from the race. He picked Bala James Ngilari as his running mate. [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20]

ACN primary

The ACN primary election was held in 2011. Markus Gundiri emerged the party's flag bearer and picked Abdulrazak Namdas as his running mate. [21]

Murtala Hamman-Yero Nyako, rcds, D.Agric. (H.C.) is a Nigerian politician and retired military officer who served as governor of Adamawa State from 2007 to 2008, and from 2008 to 2014. He previously served as military governor of Niger State from its creation in 1976 to 1977, and as Nigeria's Chief of the Naval Staff from 1990 to 1992.

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is a Nigerian politician and currently elected governor of Adamawa State. Fintiri has served as governor of Adamawa State since 2019. He was a member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and served as Speaker of the Assembly. He became the acting governor of Adamawa State following the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako in July 2014, serving until 8 October 2014.

The 2023 Adamawa State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Adamawa State, concurrent with elections to the Adamawa State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (PDP) was re-elected by a 3.75% margin over first runner-up and APC nominee — Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed.
