The 2008 Commonwealth of Independent States Cup was the sixteenth edition of the competition between the champions of former republics of Soviet Union. It was won by Khazar Lankaran for the first time. This was the first edition of the tournament to be hosted in Saint Petersburg, rather than in Moscow.

The 2008 UEFA Intertoto Cup was the last UEFA Intertoto Cup football tournament, the 14th to be organised by UEFA and the third since the competition's format was given a major overhaul. 2009 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship is the first round of qualifications for the Final Tournament of UEFA U-17 Championship 2009.
