The Faroe Islands Cup 2008 was played between 15 March and 14 June 2008. It was won by EB/Streymur, who successively defended their title.

Contents

Only the first teams of Faroese football clubs were allowed to participate. The First Round involved only teams from second and third deild. Teams from the highest two divisions entered the competition in the Second Round.

Víkingur is a Faroese semi-professional football club based in Leirvík. The club was founded in 2008 after the merger of GÍ Gøta and Leirvík ÍF. They play in the stadium is in Norðragøta. Both villages are part of the same municipality Eysturkommuna, located on the island of Eysturoy and about 5 kilometers away from each other. The club won the Faroese championship for the first time in the 2016 season. In the 2017 season, Vikingur won the championship again.

The Cup was won by EB/Streymur after they beat ÍF Fuglafjørður in the final. With the victory, EB/Streymur qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League.

The 2008 season of the Faroe Islands Premier League was the 66th season of the Faroese top-tier football since its establishment. It started on 29 March 2008 with a match between B36 Tórshavn and ÍF Fuglafjørður. The match was won by B36 with 4–0. The last games were played on 25 October 2008. NSÍ Runavík were the defending champions.

The 2007 Faroe Islands Cup was played between March 10 and August 15, 2007 and it was won by EB/Streymur. It was the first time they won the cup.

The Greenland Cup was an association football friendly round-robin tournament controlled by the Football Association of Greenland. On 14 November 2014, the Greece national football team met the Faroe Islands national football team during a UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match at Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Attica, Greece. To the surprise of many, the Faroe Islands won 1–0, with the only goal of the game coming from Jóan Símun Edmundsson, causing what many consider to be one of the biggest upsets in UEFA Euro qualifying history. It was the biggest shock in terms of FIFA World Rankings, as Greece were ranked 18th and the Faroe Islands were ranked 187th.
