The 2012 Faroe Islands Cup was the 58th edition of the Faroe Islands domestic football cup. It started on 24 March 2012 and ended with the final on 25 August 2012. EB/Streymur were the defending champions, having won their fourth cup title the previous year. The winner of the competition qualified for the first qualifying round [1] of the 2013–14 UEFA Europa League.
Only the first teams of Faroese football clubs were allowed to participate. The Preliminary Round involved only teams from 1. deild, 2. deild and 3. deild competitions. Teams from the highest division entered the competition in the First Round.
Three clubs from the 2. deild and one club from the 3. deild entered this round. The matches took place on 24 March 2012. The draw for this round of the competition was made on 13 February 2012. [2]

B36 Tórshavn is a Faroese semi professional football club based in the capital of Tórshavn, playing in the Faroe Islands Premier League, the top tier of Faroese football. B36 Tórshavn has always played its home games in Gundadalur. Originally all Faroese football teams played on gravel grounds, but starting in the late 1980s the grounds were changed into second generation artificial turf. All the artificial pitches have been changed into third generation artificial turf, approved by FIFA.
Havnar Bóltfelag (HB) is a Faroese football club. It is one of the oldest and most successful football clubs in the Faroe Islands. The club was founded in 1904, and is based in the capital, Tórshavn. Home matches are played at the Gundadalur and they compete in the Faroe Islands Premier League. Havnar Bóltfelag is Faroese for Harbour Football Club, with Havn coming from the name of the town of Tórshavn.
