As the global city of Malaysia, it covers an area of 243 km2 (94 sq mi) and has an estimated population of 1.73 million as of 2016. Greater Kuala Lumpur, also known as the Klang Valley, is an urban agglomeration of 7.25 million people as of 2017. It is among the fastest growing metropolitan regions in Southeast Asia, in both population and economic development.

Presently he is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party or Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU), a component of Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition since 2019. He was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) party and was the Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism in the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government then (2015-2018). He resigned from UMNO to be an Independent politician in 2018.

Previously, he was the Member of Parliament of Malaysia for the Temerloh constituency in Pahang from 2008 to 2013 representing United Malay National Organisation (UMNO), the leading party in the then-ruling coalition of Barisan Nasional (BN).
The Consulate General of Malaysia for Southern India is one of the three missions of Malaysia in India focusing on Malaysian interests in the region. It is located in Chennai and its jurisdiction includes the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and the union territory of Puducherry. The other two are the Malaysian High Commission in New Delhi and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai, in addition to an honorary office in Kolkata. Kelantan Football Association, also known as The Red Warriors, is a professional association football club based in Kota Bharu, in the Malaysian state of Kelantan. The football team has played in the second tier of Malaysian football, Malaysia Premier League since 2019. Founded in 1946, they have a long-standing rivalry with Terengganu, the two east coast teams involved in what is known as the East Coast Derby. Their home is the 22,000-seat Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium. Kelantan's regular kit colours are red shirt and shorts with a white pattern on the side.
