Due to severe financial difficulties, Dynamo missed the opportunity to be promoted to the First Division in 2005. After that, it was formally liquidated two times and resurrected again as an amateur team, eventually redeeming the professional status. As of the season 2013–14, the team played in the amateur championship of Stavropol krai under the name Dynamo UOR. A separate club was renamed FC Dynamo GTS Stavropol for the 2014–15 season in the Russian Professional Football League. Before the 2015–16 season, FC Dynamo GTS was renamed FC Dynamo Stavropol.

Other popular sports in Uzbekistan are football, basketball, boxing, wrestling, and judo.

The Soviet Top League, known after 1970 as the Higher League, served as the top division of Soviet Union football from 1936 until 1991.

The 2008–09 Ukrainian First League is the eighteenth since its establishment. The Professional Football League (PFL) decreased the number of teams in the league. This season, there are 18 teams instead of 20 teams competing. Two of the teams were relegated from the 2007–08 Ukrainian Premier League and two were promoted from the 2007–08 Ukrainian Second League. To decrease the number of teams in the competition 4 teams were relegated from the 2007–08 Ukrainian First League season.

Uzbekistan Pro League is a professional football league in Uzbekistan, and currently the second level after the Uzbekistan Super League.

The Uzbekistan Women's League, also the Uzbek women's national football championship, is top division of women's football in Uzbekistan. The league is organized by the Uzbekistan Football Federation. Before 1991, some Uzbek women's clubs had competed in the Soviet Union women's league system, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union most women's teams left for Russia or simply dissolved.

The 2012 Uzbekistan First League was the 21st season of 2nd level football in Uzbekistan since 1992. It is split in an Eastern and Western zone, each featuring 12 teams.
