Harold Nichols is an American football coach and former player. He was the head football coach at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina from 2009 to 2016. Nichols played college football as a quarterback at Presbyterian from 1987 to 1989. He has worked an assistant football coach at Georgia Southern University, the University of Rhode Island, Bucknell University, and his alma mater, Presbyterian.

The Blue Hose athletic program is a member of the Big South Conference and competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The PC Athletic Department fields a total of 17 varsity teams in eight men's and nine women's sports. The school colors are garnet and blue, and the mascot is Scotty the Scotsman, a medieval Scottish warrior. The team name comes from the socks worn by the football team in the early days of the twentieth century.

The Blue Hose are coached by Tommy Spangler, who is in the first season of his second stint leading the team after being hired on November 22, 2016. Spangler was previously head coach from 2001–2006. The Blue Hose football program will be transitioning to the Pioneer Football League in 2021, at that point they will no longer be offering scholarships to their football student athletes.

Led by head coach Lonnie McMillian, the team compiled a 6–3 record and won the SIAA championship. Verne Church and Lloyd Evans were the team captains. The team played its home games at Old Bailey Stadium in Clinton, South Carolina.

They defeated UNC Asheville in the first round of the Big South Tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to Radford. They were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, their first ever Division I post season tournament, where they defeated Seattle and Robert Morris to advance to the quarterfinals where they lost to Marshall.
