Louis Leo "Skip" Holtz Jr. is an American football coach who is the current head coach at Louisiana Tech University. He was head coach at the University of South Florida from 2010 to 2012 before being released. Prior to 2010, Holtz served as the head coach of the East Carolina University football team. Additionally, Holtz was the head coach of the Connecticut Huskies football team between 1994 and 1998 and an assistant head coach for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks between 1998 and 2004.
The East Carolina Pirates are the athletic teams that represent East Carolina University (ECU), located in Greenville, North Carolina. All varsity-level sports teams except for women's lacrosse participate at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the American Athletic Conference. The women's lacrosse team, newly launched for the 2018 season, is playing its inaugural season as a Division I independent before becoming a charter member of The American's new women's lacrosse league in the 2019 season. The school became an NCAA member in 1961.
Jeffrey Brian Lebo is an American college basketball coach, currently an assistant for the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League. He was previously the head men's basketball coach at East Carolina (2010-2017), Auburn University (2004–2010), the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2002–04), and Tennessee Tech (1998–2002). Before becoming a head coach, he spent a total of eight years as an assistant coach at South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and East Tennessee State.

The Pirates played their home games in Dowdy–Ficklen Stadium and were led by head coach Ruffin McNeill, a former Pirate football player and former Texas Tech defensive coordinator. They were members of Conference USA After winning consecutive C-USA championships, the Pirates finished the season 6–7, 5–3 in C-USA and were invited to the Military Bowl where they were defeated by Maryland 20–51.

They were invited to the 2013 CIT where they defeated Savannah State, Rider, Loyola (MD), Evansville, and Weber State to be the 2013 CIT Champions.
The East Carolina–UCF football rivalry is an American college football rivalry game played by the East Carolina Pirates football team of East Carolina University and the UCF Knights football team of the University of Central Florida. The teams first met in 1991, but for the majority of the rivalry both teams were members of the same conference – first Conference USA (2005–2012), and now the American Athletic Conference (2014–present).

They were invited to the Women's National Invitational Tournament where defeated Radford in the first round before losing to NC State in the second round.
