The 2012 FIU Panthers football team represented Florida International University during the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by sixth year head coach Mario Cristobal and played their home games at FIU Stadium. They were a member of the Sun Belt Conference. This was the Panthers final season as members of the Sun Belt as they have accepted an invitation to join Conference USA on July 1, 2013. [1] They were a member of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 3–9, 2–6 in Sun Belt play to finish in a tie for eighth place. Head coach Mario Cristobal was fired at the end of the season after posting a 27–47 record in six seasons.

Mario Manuel Cristobal is the American head football coach of the Miami Hurricanes football team at the University of Miami. Cristobal previously was the head football coach at Florida International University (FIU) from 2007 to 2012 and the University of Oregon from 2017 to 2021. He was an all-conference offensive tackle on the Miami Hurricanes football team that won national championships in 1989 and 1991.
The Florida Atlantic Owls are the athletics teams of Florida Atlantic University. The Owls participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division I as members of the American Athletic Conference. On October 21, 2021, Florida Atlantic accepted the invitation to join The American and became a full member on July 1, 2023.
Pedro Andres Garcia is a Cuban-born American sports administrator who was the athletic director for Florida International University since 2006. Previously, Garcia was director of football operations at the University of Miami, vice president of the Cleveland Browns, and associate athletic director at the University of Miami.

The 2012–13 FIU Panthers men's basketball team represented Florida International University during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers, led by first year head coach Richard Pitino, played their home games at U.S. Century Bank Arena, and were members of the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 18–14, 11–9 in Sun Belt play to finish in third place in the East Division. They advanced to the championship game of the Sun Belt tournament where they lost to WKU. Despite the 18 wins, they did not participate in a post season tournament.
The 2006 FIU Golden Panthers football team represented Florida International University in the 2006 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They participated as members of the Sun Belt Conference. The Golden Panthers played their home games at the on-campus FIU Stadium in Miami, Florida. The team was coached by Don Strock in his fifth and final season as head coach, before he resigned at the end of the year. The season was marred by the infamous brawl against the University of Miami in the seventh week of the season, which would precipitate Strock's resignation.
Cindy Russo served as the women's basketball head coach at Florida International and Lamar. Retiring in January 2015, her career spanned 39 years with 38 of those years as a head coach. She had several accomplishments over her career. She guided the FIU Panthers to 20 consecutive winning seasons. Her teams also achieved 20 win seasons 18 times. Her teams participated in six NCAA Division I women's basketball tournaments, seven WNIT tournaments, and two NCAA Division II Tournaments.
The 2017 Conference USA football season was the 22nd season of Conference USA football and part of the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The season began on August 26 with Rice facing Stanford in Sydney, Australia. This season was the third season for C-USA under realignment that took place in 2014, which added the 14th member Charlotte from the Atlantic 10 Conference. C-USA is a "Group of Five" conference under the College Football Playoff format along with the American Athletic Conference, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, and the Sun Belt Conference.
The 2019 Camellia Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 21, 2019, with kickoff at 5:30 p.m. EST on ESPN. It was the 6th edition of the Camellia Bowl, and one of the 2019–20 bowl games concluding the 2019 FBS football season. For 2019, the Camellia Bowl did not have a corporate naming sponsor.

FIU played home games at Riccardo Silva Stadium in Westchester, Florida,
