The 2012 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship was the second Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. It took place between 28 May and 1 June 2012 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament after defeating Kuwait in the gold medal game, claiming their second title of the championships. Oman finished third after defeating Bahrain in the bronze medal game.

Overview

The 2012 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship began on 28 May 2012 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates with the games being played at Zayed Sports City. [1] [2] The United Arab Emirates as host and defending champion returned along with Kuwait and Oman to compete in their second Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. Saudi Arabia who competed in the 2010 championship did not send a team while Bahrain made their first appearance in the competition. The four teams first competed in a round robin competition, with their ranking determining their seeding in the semi-finals. [1] The United Arab Emirates finished in first place after the round robin and were seeded against fourth place Bahrain, while second place Kuwait was seeded with third place Oman. [1] The United Arab Emirates and Kuwait both won their semi-finals and advanced to the gold medal game, while the losing teams advanced to the bronze medal game. [1] The United Arab Emirates won the tournament after defeating Kuwait 3–1 in the gold medal game, winning their second championship title. Oman finished third after defeating Bahrain 5–1 in the bronze medal game. [2] [1]

Round robin

The four participating teams were placed in a single round robin. After playing the round-robin, the number one ranked team is seeded into a semi-final against the fourth ranked team and the second ranked team plays in the second semi-final against the team who finished in third place. [1]

The UAE national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of the United Arab Emirates. It is operated under the UAE Ice Sports Federation and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). As of 26 May 2019, the UAE is currently ranked 48th in the IIHF World Ranking and competes in Division III Group A tournament of the World Championships.

The Gulf Ice Hockey Championship, also known as the GCC Gulf Ice Hockey Championships, is an international ice hockey competition involving countries from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The inaugural tournament took place on May 25 to May 30 in Kuwait City, Kuwait, and was organized by the Kuwait Ice Hockey Association. The championship has featured teams from six countries since its formation and currently consists of Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates has won all four editions of the championship, while Kuwait has finished second on three occasions and Qatar on one.

The 2010 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship was the first Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. It took place between 25 May and 30 May 2010 in Kuwait City, Kuwait. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament winning all three of their games and finishing first in the standings. Kuwait finished second and Saudi Arabia finished in third place.

The 2012 IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia was the fifth IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia, an annual international ice hockey tournament held by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It took place between 17 March and 25 March 2012 in Dehradun, India. The defending champions Hong Kong, who claimed their first title in 2011, did not send a team to this year's edition. Chinese Taipei, winners of the 2010 tournament competed after skipping the 2011 tournament. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament after defeating Thailand in the final and Malaysia finished in third after defeating Kuwait in the bronze medal match.

The 2012 IIHF U18 Challenge Cup of Asia was the first IIHF U18 Challenge Cup of Asia, an annual international ice hockey tournament held by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It took place between 1 April and 6 April 2012 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Thailand won the tournament after winning all four of their round robin games and finishing first in the standings. The United Arab Emirates finished second, losing only to Thailand and Malaysia finished in third place.

The 2013 IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia was the 6th IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia, an annual international ice hockey tournament held by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It took place between 16 March and 24 March 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Chinese Taipei won the tournament after defeating Hong Kong in the final and Mongolia finished in third after defeating Kuwait in the bronze medal match. The defending champions, the United Emirates were knocked out of the playoff round in the quarterfinals by Hong Kong.

The 2014 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship was the third Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. It took place between 6 and 12 June in Kuwait City, Kuwait. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament after defeating Kuwait in the final, claiming their third title. Qatar finished third place after defeating Oman in the third place game.

The 2016 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship was the fourth Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. It took place between 28 January and 2 February 2016 in Doha, Qatar. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament after defeating Qatar in the gold medal game, claiming their fourth title of the championships. Kuwait finished third after defeating Oman in the bronze medal game.

The 2015 GCC Futsal Cup was the second edition of the biennial Futsal competition. It took place in Bahrain in 2015.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship</span> International sports tournament

The 2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship was the 20th and final IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship, an international inline hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The World Championship runs alongside the 2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship Division I tournament and took place between 25 June and 1 July 2017 in Bratislava, Slovakia at the Ondrej Nepela Arena. The tournament was won by the United States, earning their seventh World Championship title. Finland finished in second place and the Czech Republic in third after defeating Sweden in the bronze medal match.

The 2022 Asia Cup Qualifier was a men's cricket tournament which took place in Oman in August 2022 to determine qualification for the 2022 Asia Cup. The 2020 editions of the ACC Western and Eastern Region T20 tournaments were held in February and March 2020 by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), with thirteen teams competing in total with the aim of progressing to the qualifier. These were scheduled to be followed by the Asia Cup Qualifier tournament in Malaysia, which was due to be played in August 2020. However, in July 2020, the Asia Cup was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the postponement of the Qualifier. In May 2021, the Asian Cricket Council confirmed that there would be no Asia Cup in 2021, with that edition of the tournament deferred until 2023. It was later announced that there would be a T20I Asia Cup in 2022, to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates.

The 2019 IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia Division I was an international women's ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The tournament took place between 14 April and 19 April 2019 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and was the fifth edition held since its formation in 2014 under the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia series of tournaments. The tournament made up the second level of competition sitting below the 2019 IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia. The Philippines won the tournament after finishing first in the standings. The United Arab Emirates finished in second place and India finished third.

The Kuwait women's national ice hockey team is the ice hockey team representing Kuwait internationally in women's competition. The team is overseen by the Kuwait Ice Hockey Association, a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The team was formed in 2017 and currently competes in the IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia Division I tournament.

The 2022 GCC Women's Gulf Cup was a women's T20I cricket (WT20I) tournament played in Oman from 20 to 26 March 2022. Organised by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the tournament featured the women's national teams of Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Bahrain and Saudi Arabia played their first official WT20I matches during this tournament.
