The Russian Federation competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's fifth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics as an independent nation. The Russian Olympic Committee sent a total of 436 athletes to the Games, 208 men and 228 women, to compete in 24 sports. For the first time in its Olympic history, Russia was represented by more female than male athletes.

The 2011 Hungarian Athletics Championships were the 116th edition of the Hungarian Athletics Championships, which took place on 6–7 August 2011 at the Városi Szabadidőközpont in Szekszárd.

Nándor Fóthy was a Hungarian track and field athlete and one of the best discus throwers of his time. Competing for Nagykanizsai Testnevelési Egylet until 1903 and for Aradi Atlétikai Club subsequently, he won two Hungarian Athletics Championships titles in discus throw in 1903 and 1904. In 1902 he became the first discus thrower to breach the 40-meters mark, which was an unofficial world record that time – world records in the men's discus were not recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) until 1912. In 1903 Fóthy further improved his best to 41.80 meters.
Hungary competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Hungarian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, except for two occasions. Hungary was not invited to the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, because of its role in the first World War, and it was also part of the Soviet boycott, when Los Angeles hosted the 1984 Summer Olympics.
Xénia Siska is a Hungarian track and field athlete who specialised in the 100 metres hurdles. She is her country's best ever female sprint hurdler, holding from 1984 to 2020 the Hungarian record in the 100 m hurdles, and from 1985 to 2019 the 60 metres hurdles and 50 metres hurdles. She is also a co-holder of the 4×100 metres relay national record.
