The 2012 Hungarian Athletics Championships were the 117th edition of the Hungarian Athletics Championships, which took place on 16–17 June 2012 at the Városi Szabadidőközpont in Szekszárd. The competition was organized in remembrance of Ágoston Schulek, [1] a multiple Hungarian champion in pole vault as an active and the president of the Hungarian Athletics Association after his retirement, who died in October 2011. [2]

Qualification

Initially, Hungarian athletes who met the qualification standard in each specific event might have taken part at the championships, however, the qualification method was later changed. By the new rules, a limit of competitors was set in each event, that allowed only the highest ranked athletes to participate. In addition, foreign athletes who produced in the calendar year an at least 1000 points performance according to the IAAF Scoring Tables were also eligible for participation. Their achievements, however, did not count toward the official results. [3]

2011 Hungarian Athletics Championships International athletics championship event

The 2011 Hungarian Athletics Championships were the 116th edition of the Hungarian Athletics Championships, which took place on 6–7 August 2011 at the Városi Szabadidőközpont in Szekszárd.

Italy at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics Sporting event delegation

Italy will compete at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics from 10 to 18 August in Moscow, Russia. On 23 July 2013 the President of the FIDAL Alfio Giomi, announced during the event which took place in Augosto Azzurro in the main hall of CONI, which are 59 Italian athletes who will participate in the world championships in Moscow.

Nándor Fóthy was a Hungarian track and field athlete and one of the best discus throwers of his time. Competing for Nagykanizsai Testnevelési Egylet until 1903 and for Aradi Atlétikai Club subsequently, he won two Hungarian Athletics Championships titles in discus throw in 1903 and 1904. In 1902 he became the first discus thrower to breach the 40-meters mark, which was an unofficial world record that time – world records in the men's discus were not recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) until 1912. In 1903 Fóthy further improved his best to 41.80 meters.

Hungary competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Hungarian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, except for two occasions. Hungary was not invited to the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, because of its role in the first World War, and it was also part of the Soviet boycott, when Los Angeles hosted the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Xénia Siska is a Hungarian track and field athlete who specialised in the 100 metres hurdles. She is her country's best ever female sprint hurdler, holding from 1984 to 2020 the Hungarian record in the 100 m hurdles, and from 1985 to 2019 the 60 metres hurdles and 50 metres hurdles. She is also a co-holder of the 4×100 metres relay national record.

The men's 800 metres event at the 2007 European Athletics U23 Championships was held in Debrecen, Hungary, at Gyulai István Atlétikai Stadion on 12 and 14 July.
