2012 Panam GP Series

The 2012 Panam GP Series season is the revival of Panam GP Series. This series takes their format of the defunct A1 Grand Prix with Latin American national teams. Panam GP Series has the approval of FIA and Ferrari Driver Academy. The car will be the same used in the Formula Abarth.

Latin American teams have been invited to participate. Mexico, [2] Venezuela, Chile have confirmed theirs participation.

Report

Previous to first race, a test was conducted in the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Gerado Nieto was the fastest driver clocked 1:19.145 in the 4 km course (181.94 km/h). Rodolfo Camarillo had the second fastest time in 1:19.183, and the NASCAR driver, Hugo Oliveras, clocked 1:19.341. [4]

Round 1: Mexico

The season began in Mexico. Hugo Oliveras set the fastest time in the qualifying session. The Ecuadorian driver, Sebastián Merchán, was the second fastest. [5] In the first race Merchán took the lead in the first lap, but Oliveras recovered the first place in the second lap for win the race (27:42.000, 173.8 km/h). Merchán came in second place. Homero Richards and Francisco Cerullo fight for the third place, being the winner Richards. [6] The second race was started with reverse grid, Luis Carlos Martínez in the pole, but Gerardo Nieto became the leader in the first lap to win the race (26:24.751, 181.73 km/h). Francisco Cerullo never can reach to Nieto, and finished in second place. Javier Amado, Homero Richards and Hugo Oliveras fought for the third place, finally Oliveras won the position. [7]

The second round was carried out in Guatemala. The first race was won by the local driver Andrés Saravia. Saravia had taken the pole in the qualification, and dominated all of the race. [8] The second race was won by Gerardo Nieto, who took his second victory, and the lead of the championship. [9]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez</span> Auto race track in Mexico City, Mexico

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a 4.304 km (2.674 mi) motorsport race track in Mexico City, Mexico, named after the racing drivers Ricardo (1942–1962) and Pedro Rodríguez (1940–1971). The circuit got its name shortly after it opened when Ricardo Rodríguez died in practice for the non-Championship 1962 Mexican Grand Prix. Ricardo's brother Pedro was also killed behind the wheel nine years later. Since 2015, the track has once again hosted the Formula One Mexican Grand Prix, an event it previously hosted in two separate periods on a different layout, the last occasion of which was in 1992.

Homero Richards is a Mexican race car driver from Mexico City. Richards won back-to-back championships in the Panam GP Series, in 2004 and 2005. He made his first and only Champ Car World Series start in 2005 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Rubén Pardo Estevez is a Mexican professional stock car racing driver. He currently competes in the NASCAR Mexico Series. He is the brother of fellow NASCAR driver Carlos Pardo, who died in 2009.

The Autódromo Internacional Miguel E. Abed is a racing track located in the town of Amozoc, 30-kilometre (19 mi) east of the city of Puebla in the Mexican state of the same name. The track has a capacity for 42,500 people.

The Panam GP Series is the replacement of the Mexican Formula Three Championship. In 2002 began as Mexican Formula Renault, but in 2005 started an internationalization process in Central America and North of South America. In 2008, the series fell in hiatus. Some people started the LATAM Challenge Series with the same cars. In 2012, the revival ran with Formula Abarth cars.

Formula Renault is a class of formula racing that was founded in 1971. It is currently the biggest single-seater championship in the United Kingdom.

Formula Abarth was an open wheel racing series based in Italy and Europe aimed at karting graduates. The inaugural season was in 2010, effectively replacing the Formula Azzurra.

The 2011 NASCAR Corona Series was the eighth season of the Corona Series and was organized by NASCAR Mexico. The season was composed by fourteen races in seven venues across Mexico. The season started in Monterrey with the Regia 200, and finished in Mexico City in the Mexico Fest 200. Six drivers won races being Homero Richards the most winner with five. Mónica Morales won the owners championship for third time and Germán Quiroga successful defend his championship, winning his third championship. Enrique Contreras III won the Rookie of the Year title.

The 2010 NASCAR Corona Series was the seventh season of the Corona Series, which was organized by NASCAR Mexico. The season was composed by fourteen races. Aguascalientes was venue of the kickoff and the final event. Germán Quiroga won his second championship in row.

The Autódromo Monterrey is a racetrack in Apodaca, Nuevo León, México, in the Monterrey metropolitan area. The track currently is operated by DIPSA and host races for NASCAR México, drag racing, karting and Volks races.

The EcoCentro Expositor Querétaro is an exposition center located in El Marqués, Quéretaro, near Santiago de Querétaro. Ecocentro was opened in 2001 by then president Vicente Fox. Currently the Querétaro fair is held every year in November, and the El Marqués fair is held in May.

2011 LATAM Challenge Series season was the fourth season of LATAM Challenge Series. The season started on April 9, and finished on November 20. There was nine double events, seven in Mexico and two in USA. The Venezuelan driver Giancarlo Serenelli retained the championship with seven victories in the season. He also runs in Super Copa Telcel.

The 2012 GP3 Series season was the third season of the GP3 Series, a feeder series for the GP2 Series. The season began at Barcelona on 12 May and concluded at Autodromo Nazionale Monza on 9 September after eight rounds made up of two races each and all in support of European Formula One Grands Prix.

2012 LATAM Challenge Series season is the fifth season of LATAM Challenge Series. The season started on April 22 in Guadalajara, and will finish on November 25 in Puebla. There will be nine double events, seven in Mexico and two in United States. The defending champion Giancarlo Serenelli migrated to Auto GP and GP2.

The 2015–16 NACAM Formula 4 Championship season was the inaugural season of the NACAM Formula 4 Championship. It began on 1 November 2015 with a non-championship round at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, and finished on 25 June 2016 at the same venue after seven triple-header rounds.

The 2016–17 NACAM Formula 4 Championship season was the second season of the NACAM Formula 4 Championship. It began on 24 September 2016 at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas and ended on 18 June 2017 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City after eight triple-header rounds.
