The 2012 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships took place between March 9 and 11, 2012 [1] at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China. The World Championships are organised by the ISU which also runs world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating.

Results

* First place is awarded 34 points, second is awarded 21 points, third is awarded 13 points, fourth is awarded 8 points, fifth is awarded 5 points, sixth is awarded 3 points, seventh is awarded 2 points, and eighth is awarded 1 point in each race, to determine to Overall World Champion. Points are only awarded to the athletes that have taken part in the Final of each race. The leader after the first 1000m in the 3000m Super-Final is awarded extra 5 points. Relays do not count for the Overall Classification.

Short track speed skating is a form of competitive ice speed skating. In competitions, multiple skaters skate on an oval ice track with a length of 111.112 metres (364.54 ft). Hamelin is the 2014 overall World Cup season winner, and the 2018 overall World Champion, giving him all the achievements available in the sport.

The World Short Track Speed Skating Championships are a senior international short track speed skating competition held once a year to determine the World Champion in individual distances, relays and Overall Classification. It is sanctioned by the International Skating Union and is usually held in March or April.

The World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships are a junior short track speed skating event and held once a year in a different country.

J. R. Celski Short-track speed skater

John Robert "J. R." Celski is a retired American short track speed skater, three-time Olympian, and three-time medalist in the Winter Olympics. Celski has held a total of five combined Short Track World and Junior World Records throughout his career including the 500m and 5000m relay World Records as well as the 500m, 1000m and 3000m relay Junior World Records. Celski was a part of the team that broke and currently holds the World Record in the 5000m Relay established in Shanghai, China on November 12, 2017.

Katherine Reutter American speed skater

Katherine Reutter is an American short track speed skater. She is a two-time medalist in the Winter Olympics, 2011 overall world silver medalist and the 2010–2011 overall ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup champion.

The 2010 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships took place between 19 and 21 March 2010 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The World Championships are organised by the ISU which also run world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating.

Kim Dong-Sung is a South Korean former short track speed skater. He won a gold medal in 1000m race and silver medal in 5000m relay at the 1998 Winter Olympics. He has been a two-time Overall World Champion in 1997 and in 2002 and two-time Overall World Cup Champion.

Elise Christie is a British short track speed skater. She is coached by Nicky Gooch and she specialises in the 1000m event. She is ten times a European gold medalist, including two overall European titles in 2015 and 2016. In the 2017 World Championships in Rotterdam she won world titles in the 1000m and 1500m events, as well as the overall gold, the first British woman and first European woman to do so.

Li Jianrou Short track speed skater

Li Jianrou is a Chinese Short track Speed skater. She won a gold medal in the 500 m event of the 2014 Winter Olympics. She is the 2012 Overall World Champion. She represented China in the 2014 Winter Olympic's Ladies' 500 m event, 1000 m event and 1500 m event. She competed with China's women's relay team in the Ladies' 3000 m relay Finals and Semifinals.

Shim Suk-hee South Korean speed skater

Shim Suk-hee is a South Korean short track speed skater. At the 2014 Winter Olympics, she won gold in the 3000-metre relay as part of the South Korean relay team, silver in the 1500 metres, and bronze in the 1000 metres.

The 2013 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships took place from 8 to 10 March 2013 at the Főnix Hall in Debrecen, Hungary. They were the 38th World Short Track Speed Skating Championships and the first to be held in Hungary.

Choi Min-jeong is a South Korean short track speed skater. Choi was awarded her first senior individual gold medal ahead of Arianna Fontana and Shim Suk-hee, passing through the finish line of the women's 1500 m final for second ISU Short Track World Cup of the 2014–2015 seasons held in Montreal, Canada. At age 16, she became the 2015 Overall Ladies World Champion. She is the current 500m short track speed skating Olympic record holder after breaking the previous record set by Elise Christie by 0.45 seconds. She was penalised in the final of the 500 m event at the 2018 Winter Olympics for interference, but won a gold medal in the following 1500 m race. She also won Gold in the 3000m Relay. In the 1000m Finals, she collided with another South Korean skater and crashed, ultimately finishing 4th.

The 1976 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships were the first ever championships and took place between April 9 and 11, 1976 in Champaign, Illinois. The World Championships are organised by the ISU which also run world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating.

Courtney Lee Sarault is a Canadian short track speed skater.
