The 2012–13 Santiago Island League (South) season was the 2012-13 season of the regional football championship played in Santiago Island, Cape Verde as part of the Santiago South Zone Football Association. The season began on December 21 and finished in the Spring. Sporting won the regional competition and qualified into the 2013 Cape Verdean Football Championships. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Santiago Sul, ARFSS). [1]

Description

Sporting Praia won their seventh title and was their second straight and competed into the National Championships with 48 points, Sporting first claimed it on April 7. As Sporting were national winners for the 2012 season, Desportivo Praia also participated, this was the last time a second placed club from the region participated, their next will be after the 2017-18 season. Vitória was promoted after spending just a season in the second division while Ribeira Grande of Cidade Velha was relegated and spent the next four seasons in the Second Division. Ribeira Grande will spend the 2017-18 season in the Premier Division as they entered the promotion zone on March 26, 2017 with 30+ points. Tchadense was second last and played two promotional matches where Tchadense won the competition and remained in the Premier Division for the following season.

Sporting Clube da Praia

Sporting Clube da Praia, short form: Sporting Praia is a professional football club that plays in the Santiago South Premier Division in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago, one of the unrelegated clubs in the south of the island along with three of the city's four historically mightiest clubs including Académica, Boavista and CD Travadores. Along with Académcia, Boavista, Desportivo, Travadores and Vitória, it is one of several teams that share the same ground, Estádio da Várzea, which has a capacity of 8,000. Sporting has won six championships since independence and a few before independence. The first title was won in the summer of 1962 before independence. Sporting recently won the 2017 national title. Its current president is Carlos Daniel Caetano and its manager is Lito, who once played for Portuguese clubs as footballer.

In point totals, since May 17 (officially), what was the second highest in the island and the nation, it is now the sixth highest overall and now shares AJAC's total of the North Zone.

Sporting Praia was the defending team of the title. A total of 20 clubs participated in the competition, each in two divisions.

The 2011–12 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 3 December and finished on 29 April. Sporting won the regional competition and qualified into the 2012 Cape Verdean Football Championships. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association.

The 2013–14 Santiago Island League (South) season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. The winner qualified into the 2014 Cape Verdean Football Championships. It started on 15 November 2013 and finished on 30 March 2014. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. Sporting Praia won the 8th title and finished with 44 points. Their next championship title for Sporting would be in 2017.

The 2014–15 Académica da Praia season were in the island division of football (soccer). The club finished 5th after AD Bairro and behind Celtic Praia with 27 points and 16 goals.

The 2016–17 Sporting Clube da Praia season were in the island division of football (soccer). The club won the island's 9th regional and later the 10th national title, their next in five years.
