The 2013 Copa do Nordeste was a football competition held in the Brazilian Northeast, counting as the 10th edition in the history of the Copa do Nordeste. It was played from January 19, with its final on 10 and 17 March, featuring 16 clubs, with Bahia and Pernambuco having three berths each and Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe, Alagoas and Paraíba having two each.

The latter 6 clubs entered the competition in the 4th stage. The best six teams of the 2014 Brazilian Championship eliminated until the third round qualified for the 2015 Copa Sudamericana.

The 2016 Copa do Nordeste was the 14th edition of the main football tournament featuring teams from the Brazilian Northeast Region. Santa Cruz (Pernambuco) qualified to play in the 2016 Copa Sudamericana, after winning the final against Campinense (Paraíba) 3–2 on aggregate.
Santa Cruz also qualified to play in the 2017 Copa Sudamericana but CONMEBOL reduced the Brazilian berths from 8 to 6. Therefore, the champions Santa Cruz and Paysandu lost their Copa Sudamericana berths. Finally, they qualified for the 2017 Copa do Brasil Round of 16.
Ceará were the defending champion, but were eliminated by Santa Cruz in the quarterfinals.
