The 2013 McMurry War Hawks football team represented McMurry University during the 2013 NCAA Division II football season and competed as an independent. The War Hawks competed as a provisional division II team, transitioning from Division III. The War Hawks were led by Mason Miller in his first and only season as head coach.

Contents

On January 31, 2014, the university's Board of Trustees voted to withdraw the school's provisional division II status and remain in division III for all of its athletic programs. [1] Following the board's announcement, several coaches stepped down from their positions, including Miller, who announced his resignation on March 29, 2014. Defensive coordinator Kendall Roberson was named interim head coach. [2]

Offseason

Coaching changes

Head coach Hal Mumme stepped down in January 2013, later taking an offensive assistant position at SMU. [3] On January 30, offensive coordinator Mason Miller was named the program's 21st head coach. [4] Quarterbacks coach Chase Holbrook was promoted to offensive coordinator while defensive backs coach Kendall Roberson was promoted to defensive coordinator. [5]

McMurry University is a private Methodist university in Abilene, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1923 and named after William Fletcher McMurry. The university offers forty-five majors in the fields of fine arts, humanities, social and natural sciences, education, business, and religion, and nine pre-professional programs, including nursing, dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary, and law.

Jagodzinski served as he head football coach at Boston College in 2007 and 2008, leading the Eagles to a record of 20–8 and consecutive appearances in the ACC Championship Game. In 2010, he was the head coach of the United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks.

Chase Andrew Cole Holbrook is an American football coach and former starting quarterback for New Mexico State University from 2006 to 2008. He is currently an offensive analyst at Colorado State. He was previously the quarterbacks coach for the New Mexico State University Aggies football team. Holbrook played his freshman collegiate year at Southeastern Louisiana as a backup quarterback in 2004.

Joseph Levi "Joe Lee" Dunn, Sr was an American college football coach and player. As a defensive coordinator, he was known for coaching from the sidelines, seldom using a headset or carrying playsheets, and his aggressive, unorthodox schemes. He is widely credited with inventing the attacking 3-3-5 scheme that has been used by several college and high school teams.

Bobby Blizzard is an American college football coach and former tight end. He is the wide receivers coach for Hampton University, a position he has held since 2023. The McMurry War Hawks football team represents McMurry University in college football in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the NCAA Division III level. The War Hawks are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), fielding its team in the SCAC since 2024. The War Hawks play their home games at Wilford Moore Stadium in Abilene, Texas. The team was known as the McMurry Indians until 2011.

The Arlington Renegades are a professional American football team based in Arlington, Texas. The Renegades compete in the United Football League (UFL). The team was founded as the Dallas Renegades by Vince McMahon's Alpha Entertainment and are owned-and-operated by Dwayne Johnson's Alpha Acquico and Fox Corporation. The Renegades play their home games at Choctaw Stadium. In 2023, The Renegades had a regular season record of 4-6 and were 2-0 in the playoffs, and were crowned XFL Champions. The 2012 McMurry War Hawks football team represented McMurry University in the 2012 NCAA Division II football season. The War Hawks, transitioning to Division II and Lone Star Conference (LSC) membership, competed as an independent and provisional Division II member. They played a mixed schedule of schools from the FCS, NAIA, and D-II. McMurry competed in the Division II postseason via the LSC's bid to the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl.

Chris Shula is an American football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football as a linebacker at Miami University and previously served as an assistant coach at Ball State University, Indiana University, John Carroll University and for the San Diego Chargers. MD Daniels is an American college football coach. He is the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for Bethel University, positions he has held since 2024. He was the head football coach for Iowa Wesleyan University from 2020 to 2022 when the school dropped the sport. He also coached for McMurry. He played college football for McMurry as a defensive back, running back, and wide receiver.

The 2011 McMurry War Hawks football team represented McMurry University during the 2011 NCAA Division III football season as a member of the American Southwest Conference (ASC). Led by third-year head coach Hal Mumme, the War Hawks played their home games at Wilford Moore Stadium in Abilene, Texas. The War Hawks finished the regular season going 7–1 in ASC play to finish second in the conference. The team received an at-large bid for the NCAA Division III playoffs, making the Division III playoffs for the first time in program history. In the first round, McMurry defeated no. 15 Trinity (TX) before falling to conference foe Mary Hardin–Baylor in the second round.
